The Future of Birth Control: Lybrel

You Won't Experience Your Period with This Birth Control Pill!

Many women are faced with the choice of whether or not they should choose some form of oral contraception. There are many prescription medications of birth control on the drug market today and there are some main differences between each of them. However, the Food and Drug Administration is set to debate whether or not Lybrel, a prescription drug by Wyeth, Inc., should be allowed on the prescription medication market.

What makes Lybrel Different?

As with all birth control pills, Lybrel is a prescription pill for women who want some effective form of birth control. The biggest difference between Lybrel and all the rest, however, is that Lybrel actually suspends a woman's ability to menstruate. This means that a woman does not have to worry about that time of the month when their hormones kick in and acne runs wild. As long as a woman is taking Lybrel, her period will indefinitely be suspended.

It's also important for a woman to know that once she has stopped taking Lybrel she will be able to return to her normal menstrual cycles. Even though they may not be regulated at first after stopping Lybrel birth control, they will return back to their menstrual cycle and have the ability to get pregnant. Furthermore, Wyeth has conducted their study of women who took Lybrel. They found that 99% of women who were taking Lybrel and then stopped immediately returned to their normal cycle; some of them even did get pregnant within a few months.

Lybrel is Effective

Wyeth also conducted a study that was concerned with the effectiveness of the pill. They studied women who were currently taking Lybrel and found that none of the participants who were taking the prescription drug achieved pregnancy. Women taking other oral forms of birth control have found that they still are able to get pregnant. It appears that Lybrel would decrease a woman's chance even more to get pregnant.

This prescription birth control pill certainly has great implications for all women looking for an effective form of birth control. Women now have a drug that will indefinitely stop their menstrual cycle and prevent them from getting pregnant if they desire to do so. This is also a good choice for married couples who are not yet ready to handle the responsibility of a child for one reason or another. Lybrel will definitely be one of the better birth control pills on the market if it is officially approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
