The Future Son

Allana Calhoun
Look to the future my son
and tell me what you see.

I see a field of brown.
A field without a tree.

Ah, my son, is that so?
Tell me do you see more?

I can see a child,
a child and a door.

Tell me of the child my son,
and tell me of the door.

He is sad and forlorn.
He looks weary and sore.

What of the door my son?
What is it doing there?

It's standing in the field.
It's hanging in midair.

Can the child see the door?
Does he know what to do?

He is opening the door,
he is going to go through.

What lies beyond my son?
To where does the door lead?

It leads to the future
and to Earth's new seed.

Ah, my son, you know
much about your future.

I learned it all from you,
my father and my teacher.

But do you know the meaning
of all that you've been taught?

I know the children are the key
to what many men have sought.

And what is this thing,
that men have sought so long?

It's the answer to the question
of how to right their wrong.

Tell me of the wrong my son,
and what man did to Earth.

They destroyed and plundered her
and robbed her of her worth.

And now my son, do you know
what must happen next?

We, the children, must work hard
to restore Earth to her best.

How do you go about that?
Exactly what do you do?

Find a new source of energy.
Let the fossil fuels renew.

And what else can you do
to save our precious Earth?

Recycle what can be
to give her another birth.

That is very good my son.
You will live very well.

How to care for the Earth,
to my children I will tell.

Through children is found the key of what many men have sought. I can't possibly be smarter than a child. I love this wonderful and intelligent work of art. Thanks.
