Her soundtrack to the movie The Bodyguard was one of the biggest selling albums of all time. She has had seven consecutive #1 hits and sold over 150 million albums. For Whitney Houston however, life in recent years has been more about controversy than music. She has been constantly in the news for everything from drugs to divorce. Now preparing a new album set to be released in early 2008 many are wondering can Whitney Houston make a comeback.

Let's begin by defining a comeback. For this articles sake a comeback means, your last CD did not perform well or you have been away from the music scene for a long time. Both are true in the case of Houston. Whitney's last album, titled Just Whitney was anything but successful compared to her previous albums. The CD debuted on the Billboard charts at #9. The album actually had pretty good first week numbers but with poor reviews and no single reaching the top 40 Houston's album soon was a thing of the past. It was her weakest effort and most uninspiring album ever. She would release a Christmas album a year later that would do even worse, failing to reach gold status, Houston's only album to do so.

Times would get much worse for Houston. Rumors had circulated for years that Houston had problems with drugs and soon their would be evidence to back up the claims. In 2000 marijuana was found in her luggage as she was boarding a plane in Hawaii. Houston avoided authorities however and later had the charges dropped. Her supper thin body was noticable at Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary adding more fuel to the fire claiming she was on drugs. Houston was famous for a quote during a Dianne Sawyer interview where she said she was "too rich for crack." In her words "Crack is wack." Such comments and outburst have contributed to years of jokes and criticism of Houston.

Drugs were not Whitney's only problem. In 2002 her father, John Houston sued Whitney for over 100 millions dollars claiming Whitney owed him for guidance for early in his career. Furthermore Houston appeared on her husband's show Being Bobby Brown. The show allowed fans to see Houston in her daily life. Many people became even more disappointed in the good girl that had gone bad.

Despite such a downfall times appear to be changing for Whitney Houston. Houston has finally made the decision to divorce her husband Bobby Brown. Also recent appearances by Houston show her at a good weight and looking much better. Houston finally entered rehab in 2006 and appears to be off of drugs.

Furthermore Houston's music career is ready to start back up. Houston recently recorded a song for the Daddy's Little Girl Soundtrack with Dionne Warrick and Cissy Houston. Clive Davis announced Whitney is back in the studio and is working on a new album with great producers like Ne-Yo, Will-I-am, R Kelly and even John Legend.

So the question still remains can Houston make a comeback? Only time will truly tell but many people believe so. She must clean up her image and prove she has kicked the drugs for good. Second she must return with great music. She must put her heart and soul into it, people must really feel it. If she can do this, she stands a chance of coming back. People in the music business along with fans are usually very forgiving. Both R.Kelly and Michael Jackson are examples of stars in the 90's who were able to return after great setbacks in their career. If they can do it, surely Houston can do the same.
