This gadget is one that just bit hold of me and I had to have it. There are digital picture frames galore that let you load pictures from either digital cards, or hook up a USB connection to your computer to load pictures on to the frame. But this one from eStarling, manufactured by PF Digital in McLean VA and goes for $250.00, does something even more amazing. It is a wireless device that can be setup to check an email address for messages. When a message is received at the email address with a picture attached the eStarling will detach the picture, load it into the queue of pictures and display it without any user intervention! Associated Content.URL:( http://www.estarling.com).
Photos can also be exchanged with other eStarling frames by connecting your camera's memory card to the photo frame and approving other eStarling frames to send the pictures on. I also connected to the eStarling frame wirelessly from my computer and transferred pictures directly to the frame using provided software, after first setting up with the included USB cable. The eStarling can also be connected via RSS feeds to a photo sharing web site like Flickr and Google's Picassa to get all its pictures. What this means is that Grandma's picture frame can have pictures loaded on it by all her kids and grandkids without having to do anything but look at the pictures! Of course you will have to setup a wireless setup for her but she needs that too, another article, that's easy. The feeds from the web sites can also be setup to display via keywords you set so that only the youngest grandchild will be displayed.
The specifications, displays photos stored on a MMC/SD/CF/MS card slot, On-board Storage (128 MB) close to 200 photos, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g with Support for WEP encryption, Web access via wireless 802.11 Network; and, Frame Setup requires the user to run the included software on a Windows 2000/XP compatible PC. After the first setup, eStarling is operated in a PC-less mode.
The first release of the eStarling had some issues however sold out very quickly. The support for this first purchase was a bit sketchy however they have now redeemed themselves and are sending the new model WPF-187 for exchange with the old one I still have. I can therefore recommend this product again, just hope it doesn't sell out as quick as the last one did. The first model's screen was a little over 5" but the new model is 7" so I expect I will be even more thrilled with it.
