The Garden Fairy Massacre

Donna Cavanagh
This morning was the same as every morning
To my back porch with my cup of caffeine
I sat down to watch the sunrise in the sky
But what I saw instead made me shake and scream

Immediately, I knew something bad had occurred
My statuary was not sitting peacefully among my flowers
My garden fairies andmy gnome were strewn about the lawn
Evil had visited during my sleeping hours

It looked like a crime scene; the bodies were everywhere
I found bits of fairy wings lying in the garden bed
My Penn State gnome had lost an eye in the struggle
Even her pointy hat was no longer on her head

What creature was responsible for this massacre?
What kind of monster launches such an attack?
To pick on a fairy is a bit reprehensible
Those wings are toast; they cannot be glued back

The nocturnal monster thinks it won the war
It has taken out what it sees as its foe
But go with caution, my fairy killer
Remember what you reap is also what you sow

The statues may not have put up a fight
But two dogs are awaiting your return
Try to pluck an ear off either of their heads
And a painful lesson you will most certainly learn

That's so sad. Last year we went to the local dump to take some garbage, and they sell things that people bring in which might be of use to someone else. There was a stone fairy, about a foot high, but with one wing missing. We took pity on her, and now she sits in our back garden, next to the bird bath.

What an excellent title! My sick mind at first thought some theatrical troupe was brutally murdered, or something horror show like that. Nice poem.
