When you enter the Garden Room you are immediately hit by the charm of this quaint little restaurant which was built in an old two story build downtown. The elegantly hand painted floral designs on the floor speak to the care that this small restaurant has received from its owners. You are seated at one of only a dozen tables by a finely dressed waiter and are immediately set at ease by their smiles and professionalism. This new Italian restaurant is actually a family business you learn from your waiter and the owner is also the head chef. How an old New York chef ended up opening a small Italian restaurant in Cairo, GA is too long a story to tell in this review. After our drink orders are taken the waiters immediately bring out warm crusty Italian bread with roasted garlic and olive oil. It immediately sates you and allows time to chat with your guest without starving.
We order appetizers to start, spinach dip and stuffed mushrooms. When they arrive the portions are small but, the taste makes up for it a thousand times over. The spinach dip has such a flavor you don't want to waste it on bread and could eat it simply with your spoon. And the mushrooms are cooked to perfection. At 6.95 a piece these appetizers were well worth the cost.
For our main course we choose prime rib and sea scallops. The prime rib simply melted in my mouth. Dusted with secret family ingredients the meat could be cut with a fork and was to die for. At $18.95 the 12 ounce prime rib was well worth my time. My companion had the sea scallops and they were fresh and cooked to perfection. Our waiter was attentive throughout the meal without being in the way or pushy. The scallops were $21.95.
Lastly the desert cart was wheeled out to us and we indulged in a small amount of sweet decadence. The plantation pecan pie was smooth and savory, sweet and delicious. A perfect end to the evening and at $4.95 a bargain.
To sum up our trip to the Garden room in Cairo, Georgia I would say it has a wonderful and caring staff, excellent chefs, and an ambience that make for a wonderful evening. The food is excellent and I will be back.
