Yeley took that knowledge and placed his # 46 Red Line Chevy between the team cars of Kevin Conway and Joe Nemechek. Yeley then pulled ahead of Kevin Conway in the two lap dash to gain the final transfer spot in the first Gatorade Duel 150 today.
Regan Smith in the #78 Furniture Row Chevy proved he could be a good partner in Sunday's Daytona 500 as well. Smith teamed up with Kurt Busch In his new # 22 Dodge to fight their way to the front by midway of the 60 lap sprint. Following pit stops the two cars found each other once again.
Kurt Busch fought off rising engine heat to stay out front . In the two lap run to the finish, Smith pushed Busch out of turn 4 and then dove low to make the pass for the win. Bush blocked the move, but Regan Smith did not give up. He drove high and raced Busch to the finish, but he did not have enough. Busch took the first race by a little less than a car length over second place Smith.
Gatorade Duel #2 had just as many ups and downs as the earlier race. Joey Logano's day ended early with a spin on the infield and front end damage.
Two by two racing was once again the storyline as teammates Truex and Reutimann in the MWR Toyota Camp found each other and then found the front of the field. An early caution, with Bodine spinning the #2 Dodge in an attempt to bump draft forced Brad Keselowski to the back on a restart. He then found his brother Brad who linked their two Dodges together to climb up into the top ten.
RCR Teammate s Bowyer and Burton joined together on the restart to pull ahead of the field and lead a three lap charge to the finish with Burton edging out Bowyer by 5 / 1000 of a second.
Michael Waltrip put his # 15 Toyota dedicated to Date Earnhardt Sr . in third. Kyle Bush was fourth. And a surprisingly strong Brian Keselowski finished fifth, pushed across the line by his brother Brad in the #2 Penske Dodge. A last lap accident involving Jeff Gordon bouncing off the wall and then righting his car against the side of the #21 Ford took out the strong rookie Trevor Bayne and the UPS Ford of David Ragan just a few hundred yards from the checkered flag.
