The Gay Kama Sutra by Colin Spencer

An Adapation of the Kama Sutra for Gay Men

jps246
In the Gay Kama Sutra, Colin Spencer has adapted the original Kama Sutra so that it encompasses the sexuality of male homosexuality. Having not read the original in quite some time, I'm not sure exactly how honest to the original this text is, but I found that the book does an admirable job at illustrating and discussing gay men's sexuality and sexual expression in addition to information on embracing a healthy lifestyle.

In addition to the text, the Gay Kama Sutra is illustrated with a mix of photographs and drawings that depict a number of sexual activities along with men just engaging in life activities (generally the photos are of the life activities while the drawings represent the sexual activities). In addition to those illustrations, there is some art work that reflects the original Indian nature of the Kama Sutra.

Is this a book for everyone? No. It's geared towards gay men first and foremost. Beyond that, it probably appeals mostly to gay men looking to embrace a positive and healthy outlook on life and sex.

The Book

Consisting of six chapters, the book follows the broad outline of the Kama Sutra while providing some additional information that round out the book and makes it more than just a gay version of the original.

You'll find a chapter on the "art of love," which is really a discussion about life, male love and how to take care of one self in order to embrace the best parts of your life. There's also the chapter on making love. You'll find ideas for touching and caressing your partner, sexual positions, penetration, safe sex information, fellatio and more. Nothing here is really earth shattering, but it might help you think of a new position or two.

Chapter three takes a look at the lives of gay men and their interaction with society. You'll find information on biology, circumcision, love, bisexuality, coming out, along with other topics. My only real complaint with this chapter is that it is a bit outdated considering nowadays there's legalized gay marriage in some states and overall the situation of gay men in society has changed for the better since this book was published in 1996.

Looking for sex games and other sexual activities? That kind of information is found in chapter four. There are sections on pornography, shaving, toys are discussed here, along with other topics like S&M activities. There's also information on sexual problems you may experience, along with the potential for sexually transmitted diseases if you don't practice safe sex.

In the second to last chapter Spencer talks about how to 'acquire a partner' and includes discussions on falling in love, relaxing your partner, seducing someone and how to make it through breakups. The last chapter is helpful for those who have already found that partner. There's information on aphrodisiacs and massage oils that can help spice up what would otherwise just be a normal massage.

Final Thoughts

While there are some portions of the book that are outdated considering the books publishing date (1996), the majority of the book is fairly timeless and it should help most gay men spice up their sex lives at least a little bit. Not only is there that, but the advice on a healthy lifestyle is good for everyone.

If you're a gay man looking for some interesting reading and you can find this book in the discount bin, I'd say pick it up. I found it to be an enjoyable read.
