The GE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator, It's Excellent

The GE is a Top of the Line Refrigerator and is Very Impressive

Susan Antonelli
The stainless steel GE double door refrigerator is very impressive. I am not the chef in the family so ordinarily a new appliance doesn't do a thing for me but when my hubby purchased the GE Bottom freezer refrigerator and we had it installed I was agog. It's very sleek and attractive while still being utilitarian.

This is really an impressive item It offers so many features. You get an automatic icemaker and the in the door ice and water dispenser. The dispenser offers crushed ice, regular cubes and nice ice cold water. You just press the appropriate buttons to access your choice. I had some apprehensions about stainless steel regarding smudges and fingerprints but this hasn't been a problem. It has remained nice and clean with barely any care. We did purchase the stainless steel spray just in case but we've barely used it. The GE refrigerator offers Turbo Freeze that rapidly cools the refrigerator compartments. This is excellent when you add a lot of food to the fridge at once. It offers Turbo Freeze in the freezer compartment based on the same theory. This can also be used if you are without electricity for a length of time. If you leave the refrigerator door ajar for more than 3 minutes there is a door alarm , the alarm will beep until you close the door.

This model has an energy saver feature. It has a temperature control panel so you can adjust the freezer temperature and the turbo cool, turn the ice lock on and off, turn the alarm light on and off and control your ice and for water dispensing. It has the GE water filtration system. The temperature controls can display the set temperature as well s the actual temperature in the refrigerator and freezer. This model uses 571 kwh/year. The estimated operating cost of this model is $52 a year.

The shelves are spillproof. They have special edges that prevent spills from dripping to a lower shelf. Shelves split in half and slide under for extra storage and can be replaced and relocated in numerous configurations. It has a dairy bin in one door and the other door has adjustable bins. The other side has molded bins. There is a fruit and vegetable crisper, adjustable humidity crisper, adjustable deli/produce drawer all with temperature control panels. The deli/produce drawer is the full width of the refrigerator and has a clear door and LED lighting. All the fresh foods areas have LED lighting. The crispers hav eclear look gallon doors.

The freezer is located on the bottom and is the width of the refirgerator. It has a sliding basket and a drawer. The basket area slides back and forth giving you easy access to the foods underneath. Although I was against a bottom freezer at first I find this bottom drawer design really holds quite a lot and isn't difficult to access. It does require a good hard tug to roll it out but I'm small, 5 feet and just over 100 lbs. A child would definately find it difficult to open but that might be a good thing.

The entire unit has nice comfortable streamlined handles. It has horizontal handles on the doors and vertical on the bottom drawer. It is the Profile model and is 36" wide with hidden hinges.

All in all we are extremely pleased with this unit. It cost $2,238.00 at Brandsmart and we are so pleased with the GE line we will be purchased the GE stove just this week end and will be purchasing the GE dishwasher and microwave next. This is model PFS6PKW.

How do I get a clicking noise fixed on the fridge you just mentioned?

Laughing at Carol's comment about her kids....and really enjoyed your review, particularly details like the estimated operating costs. While I don't find many shelves to be spillproof, my secret weapon is lining each shelf with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, especially if it has been recycled from a store container or package. If something spills, I simply replace the liner on the shelf and the shelf itself stays clean. A LOT easier than scrubbing dried up stuff off a shelf.

Wow...great review! That's a lot of money for a refrigerator, but sounds like it's worth it!

If you think those shelves are truly spillproof, let me loan you my kids for a few days. :)
