The General Truth

Prejudice Eyes

John Michael Tagsa
A man was shot at the market in Maitum, Saranggani Province last night. This morning a nine months old pregnant woman was found dead in her own house in Midsayap, Lanao Del Norte. A group of people was held responsible in these killings. It's said that the group was composed of Muslims. How did they know that they were Muslims? Are they at the crime scene when it happened? Can they show any proof prior to this event? This kind of mentality draws an enmity between Christian and Muslims.

One of the reasons why Muslims and Christians are against each other is because of their culture. We Christians believe that a man should only have one woman to be the apple of his eyes. With the Muslims, a man can marry as many women as he wants provided he can sustain the family he made. Some Christians get irritated with the morning prayer of the Muslims or the Fajr. Muslims are also getting insecure and angry because Christians are dominating their lands thus making it their own. Christians are also more in population than Muslims. About 67% are Christians while 8- 12% of the Filipinos are Muslims. Muslims feel that they're not welcome in the society thus they want a society of their own. We Christians feel a sense of fright when we see or hear the Muslims pray. It's been a mentality that whenever there is a bombing in the country, Muslims are held responsible for this attacks. If you were at the shoes of the Muslims and you know that you had done nothing wrong, would you feel that you're violated with your rights and the truth? Of course yes! The tendency is you would take revenge with the people whom violated you thus creating a chain reaction ending in a massive war. Hostility is what they feel. They feel no justice and feel violated in this land that's why every time the two groups would meet; there is a clashing thunder in their heads reminding that they are enemies. Do you not realize how hard it is to be accused even if you're innocent? Did you not observe that most criminals caught in our country are Christians themselves? How cruel are we if we don't realize this.

We are all sinners. We commit the same sin but have different gods to ask for forgiveness. This unending war between them would not have any sense as long as they don't accept the presence of each one, their own faults and that overflowing pride in them that hinders peace to come in.

Peace is what we need and to have peace is to have a peaceful mind and heart. We should always think that regardless of sex, status in life, race and religion we are all created equally and we're all brothers and sisters in disguise. And this is the general truth.
