I have seen a lot of people say that they tried e-cigs and it just did not do the trick for them so they went back to 'real' cigarettes in short order. After having tried 3 different companies, I have to assume that those folks simply went with the wrong brand, or wrong model. The 510 from Genesis is the real deal. I was a pack-a-day hard-core never-ever-going-to-quit smoker. I would say that the 510 is exactly like smoking but that would be misleading: It is even better.
The Genesis 510 is the same size as a tobacco cigarette so, unlike other nicotine replacement thingies, you still get the feel of a cigarette in your mouth and hand. They come in a variety of colors and strengths so you can choose which is more appealing to you. I prefer the look of all black components, but I have to tell you I think the white components actually work better. I suspect perhaps they get them from different suppliers? Or perhaps it is just that the black parts are left over from before the name change and are just older. See, Genesis used to be E-Cis before changing everything over in June 2010. The black batteries are still marked e-cis. Whatever the case, their worst batch is better than the best batch from other companies.
The battery for the 510 is the longest part of the electronic cigarette. This runs about 8.99 gpb. With the roller coaster that is the US dollar, you will have to check current exchange rates. They have 3 different batteries now for the 510 model. I like the basic automatic model myself, but I have to admit to not having tried the new super-duper Max battery yet. The automatic battery works just like smoking a cigarette. It clicks on and does its thing as soon as you inhale. The manual battery has a little button that you depress to crank it up. This is probably what I should really use because while typing I have the thing in my mouth constantly, so am using more fluid, atomizer and battery life than usual. That does not happen with the manual battery. Life of my batteries is about a month. Of course, as with any battery, the strength wanes the closer it gets to dying. That is to be expected. For me, I keep 2 charging and one in use at all times because it takes longer to charge one (about 2-3hours) than it does for me to use it up (about 90 minutes-2 hours).. but as I said, that's my own fault. If you don't abuse the things they will go longer. The new Max model of 510 battery is purported to last 6 hours.
The atomizer is where the Genesis 510 really shines against other companies. This is the little device that screws onto the battery and heats the nicotine cartridge, producing a mist. This is what makes the mist which you inhale. Make no mistake, it is not smoke. It is mist. Like when you heat water on the stove. Therefor, no second-hand anything. Other models I have tried were so weak that it really just was not worth the effort and, had I tried one of those first, I would have gone back to tobacco also. The Genesis 510, luckily, felt just like a 'real' cigarette with the very first hit. Occasionally now I will reorder replacement parts a tad too late and run out, so I have to go buy a pack of tobacco cigarettes to get me through until my shipment arrives. I really hate that. I have gotten to the point that I no longer even like the tobacco at all. The 510 atomizer lasts me about a week to 10 days.
The Genesis 510 atomizer is strong enough that it produces the same amount of mist as tobacco produces of smoke. This means I can still blow smoke rings if in the mood. Yes,I know that sounds silly, but it matters to us smokers. People have asked me about this. There's your answer.
The 'filter' is a plastic part filled with a cotton thingy which absorbs liquid nicotine. This is the part you suck on. It slides into the top of the atomizer. You can buy these pre-filled or as refillables. I personally adore the Vanilla pre-filleds, and then I top them up as needed with other flavors. These last about a day each for me, and run 13.49 gpb for 30 of them.
To get you started, they have various 510 kits with everything you need at a variety of prices. Genesis does ship the world over, and it is pretty much the same rate for you in the USA as it is for me in Sweden, which is to say about 8-12 gpb depending on the size and weight of the order. The website, as of the date of this posting, is saying free shipping with orders over 100 gpb.
I will do a separate review of Genesis as a company, but for now let me say that they are fabulous.. and this 510 model e-cig is the best I have found. It may be a tad more pricey than other companies, but it is well worth it, and I'm still spending half as much on this than I did on tobacco cigarettes. If you are thinking about switching over to e-cigs, and you really should, then go with this Genesis 510. It's the bomb-diggity.
