The Genius of Edward Kowalczyk

Live's Music Lives On

The 90's saw the rise of many great bands and musicians. One of them is Live, fronted by the enigmatic Edward Kowalczyk.

Like most of the bands at the time, they jumped into the scene with an angry feel to their music. They sang about pain, suffering, love, death, and yet their music was surprisingly catchy.

Many people today believe that the 90's was the turning point in modern music history. Indeed it was in the case of Live. Coming into that era of music, rock was often associated with drugs and sex, and musicians struggled to keep up with that association. It is here that Ed and his band mates stood out.

While other bands enjoyed the highs of both fame and drugs, they managed to keep themselves clean and still be good at their craft. And for me that is pure genius.

Music wise, Live does not appeal to everybody. Ed's unique voice can be irritating to some and heavenly to others. But his words or lyrics are pure poetry. "Dance with You" is ethereal. And that's only one of the many songs he created. It's like a soft whisper of assurance that everything will be alright despite all the wrong things happening in your life. It's an excellently crafted piece of work that has stood and will stand the test of time. And mainly it's because of Edward Kowalczyk's musical and lyrical genius.
