The Geography of Benin

Benin is located in West Africa. It borders Nigeria to the east, Togo to the west, and Niger and Burkina Faso to the north. The south is coastline on the Bight of Benin. The Niger and Oueme Rivers run through Benin.
According to wikipedia.com, Benin's elevation is about the same for the entire country. Many of its inhabitants live in the south, where the major cities are, because the north mostly desert and arid highlands.
Also according to wikipedia.com, Benin's climate is is hot and humid. It receives less rain compared to other West African countries despite the two rainy seasons that are April through July and September through November. The north is more arid and therefore dryer.
The CIA World Factbook states the total area of Benin is 112,620 sq km, which is slightly smaller than the state of Pennsylvania. In 2003, 120 sq km of the land was irrigated.
Current environmental issues facing Benin are inadequate supplies of potable water, poaching threatening wildlife populations, deforestation, and desertification.
