Teiwaz signifies a never-ending battle between everything in existence and their need to survive and prosper. This rune is associated with sun energy, self-conquest, and masculine traits. When you draw Teiwaz in response to an issue with emotional relationships, it could indicate that you have made a correct choice and should fight for what you intend to keep. When drawn reversed, Teiwaz warns you that hasty or poorly timed actions could result in disaster.
Berkana: The Rune of Growth
Berkana represents personal growth within the self, and growth in the relationship between you and the spiritual world. It signifies growth in many aspects, such as family, wealth, romance, or physical growth (as in height or weight) in yourself. Berkana reminds you that there is no growth without sacrifice, and there is no progression without realization. You need to withdraw from things that hold you back, and do away with any resistance that might be deterring you from your goals. When drawn in reverse, Berkana implies that there is an inability or unwillingness to grow.
Ehwaz: The Rune of Movement
This rune is not to be confused with Eihwaz, as it often is. Ehwaz is the rune of constant transit, the movement between one place to another, either in this world or in the metaphysical world. It signifies important transitions within yourself and others as well. R.H. Blum describes the message of Ehwaz; "As I cultivate my own nature, all else follows." When reversed, this rune could signify the inability to move along your desired path, or illustrate a blockade in your way.
Mannaz: The Rune of the Self
Mannaz is seen as the starting point for many rune readers. It signifies the self, your own knowledge, your personal destiny, and your own strengths and weaknesses. Mannaz advises modesty and selflessness, because you can sometimes see yourself more clearly from the eyes of others. If you draw Mannaz, it might be time to let your accomplishments go unnamed, and step down from any credit you may be justly owed but are not receiving. When drawn in reverse, Mannaz signifies clarity within yourself, and the need to remember who you truly are underneath the burdens and traits others may have placed on you.
Laguz: The Rune of Water
Laguz deals mostly with the flow of things in nature, and the current that you are currently caught in. This rune can signify a time for personal cleansing, for reevaluating and reorganizing what is important to you and what could truly benefit you. Laguz also signifies a happy ending, the desired outcome, where the river meets the ocean. When reversed, Laguz indicates a failure to recognize your own wisdom.
Inguz: The Rune of Fertility
This rune is associated with the moon and the always progressing side of nature. Inguz promotes harmony and peace in relationships both physical and otherwise. Drawing Inguz may mark a pleasant, happy time for you and those around you. This rune signifies the emergence from an enclosed or captured state, and moving on to become what you truly want to be. Because of it's symmetry, Inguz cannot be drawn in reverse.
Dagaz: The Rune of Emergence
Dagaz symbolizes a major breakthrough or permanent shift in your path of self-change and realization. It signifies a complete turn around, the knowledge you have attained from your journeys and tribulations has properly imbed itself in your subconscious, and you have made or are currently making some sort of astounding and progressive change. Dagaz cannot be drawn in reverse because of it's symmetry, but if drawn before the blank rune, beware! It could signify an abrupt or untimely end.
Othila: The Rune of Separation
Othila represents a fork in the road, a changing in the paths of two people, things, or places. It could even mean that you are faced with a difficult challenge, and there are two or more equally difficult paths to take to reach the end. Othila is also the rune of retreat and submission, reminding us that not every battle can be won, and sometimes it is smarter and ultimately better for everyone to withdraw and plot for next time. When drawn reversed, Othila reminds you to consider others in your decision making efforts.
