The Gerry Butler Phenomenon

Catch the Fever!

M.Soozan
Gerard James Butler, better known as Gerry to most, was born November 13, 1969 in Glasgow, Scotland. Even though he began a career studying law, Gerry knew he wanted to act. He was discovered in a local coffee house where he was given an opportunity to audition for the leading role of Mark Renton in "Trainspotting" which he landed. This Scottish actor has starred in many movies since then but most famous for his roles in "300" and "Phantom of the Opera"

After a discussion about his role in "300" with a friend of mine, I decided to see for myself just what kind of following this actor had. Finding pictures of him was definitely not a problem. Any search engine will provide page after page of pictures of Gerry Butler, from movie shots to photo shoots, from magazine covers to candid Hollywood snapshots. Just from searching Google alone I was able to include these pictures in my article for you to see.

I came across a website dedicated to Gerry Butler and had an opportunity to chat briefly with the web administrator :

What inspired you to create a website for Gerry?
I started off joining an already existing site after watching The Phantom of the Opera for the first time in January of 2005. At the time, the site did not have dedicated owners, updated material or a uniqueness that could have set it apart from all the other websites. By the end of the year I became an administrator of the site but the owner had gone awol and the site became defunct as it was left abandoned. I decided to start a site with a fellow fan, Michaela after seeing the destruction of the website that I had worked so hard to maintain.

Eventually, we found an amazing set of web designers who we owe SO much to..the site wouldn't be what it is without them...they saved us from a lot of heartache. So here we are today, a beautiful website with humble beginnings. Neither of us thought this would ever happen to us.

What end result did you expect to gain from the site?
The basis for the site was that we would cater to people who knew absolutely nothing about Gerry. Sure, other sites do the same thing, generally, but we wanted that to be our goal - exposing him to anyone and everyone we can. Gerry has inspired both of us so much, that we want to, albeit in a small way, help him as much as we possibly can. It's been very beneficial so far. It's a great feeling getting emails from Gerry's fans and other site owners telling us how great a job we're doing! It's been a lot of hard work but it's been worth it - whatever helps Gerry is a good thing.

What contacts have you met along the way since having the website?
Owning and running a website for a growing star like Gerry is always interesting. Personally, I've met a lot of wonderful people...fellow Gerry-site-owners, people involved with his movies/projects/life, etc. I get emails from complete strangers with nothing but great things to say, whether it's about Gerry, the site or myself.

Has Gerry every contacted your website?
As DG.net is still a baby in most aspects, and is somewhat unknown, unfortunately direct contact with Gerry himself hasn't occurred yet. We're optimistic, I can tell you that much!

Can anyone join the site and is there a fee or registration?
The site itself is open to anyone and everyone! The forum, however, requires a quick and easy registration.

Thank you Mischa, site Administrator, for a great chat!

Really enjoyed your article. Excellent website, Discover Gerry. I gave the article a five-star rating, but was told thanks for my three-star rating, so this is to let whomever it may concern know that the information is accurate and any Gerry fan is in for a treat at DG.

Wow, thank you so much again for writing this! The article came out great, it was so much more than I was anticipating, and I'm truly grateful! *hugs*

And thank you to "dino"...that comment was really appreciated, you have no idea! Of course, we're doing what we love, but you're right, being able to speak to Gerry himself would make it THAT much better. =D
