And, if you believe at face value what takes place on Internet matchmaking sites, Ghana has a desperate shortage of men.
The approach is always the same. An instant message arrives. The woman sender's profile is invisible. Her user information reveals that she's mid-20s to mid-30s, in a large American city (usually Los Angeles or New York), and in search of "true love."
At first, I let them talk. My country is already disliked throughout the world for its politics and rude people, and nothing is gained by reinforcing all the negative mental images.
Even though the screen says NY or LA, she reveals that she isn't there now, and is, in fact, in Ghana. She likes the ocean, mountains, walking on the beach, dining out, quiet evenings at home, and feels as comfortable in fancy clothes as she does in jeans. The usual stuff, copied and pasted from American women's profiles. Not an original thought in it. Faith will guide her, she states, to the one kind, generous man who can provide a lifetime of love and happiness.
Alarm bells begin to ring.
I point out that even faith will need a boost if the search extends several thousand miles across the Atlantic to a culture about as unlike hers as possible. At the same time, I wonder if people can become that desperate for affection, or if something is up.
Invariably, as described on this web site, a scam is under way, its objective money.
I don't let them get to the point where they ask. As amazing as the concentration of all this in one small country is the fact that men, lonely and in love with a hot picture, send funds for passports, visas, cell phones, plane tickets to the States, and to cover an assortment of emergencies.
The women might not even be from Ghana, or women.
Ray Davies, lead singer of the Kinks, foresaw the problems the Internet would create in his 1970 song "Lola." Girls will be boys and boys will be girls, he wrote; it's a mixed-up, jumbled-up, shook-up world. It really is. Pictures of models can be saved from modeling sites and added to profiles created by men. Anyone can be whomever they want in cyberspace.
How unlike a time in which people over a certain age grew up, when every small town had weekend dances where single men and women could meet others like themselves. People over a certain age who are more likely to accept things as they seem because they learned that's how the world operated. In an era of cyberscams, they're the most vulnerable.
The time finally came, despite my country's tattered reputation, to just say NO to all the international tomfoolery. When the last suspicious IM arrived, I typed "You are from Ghana. Leave me alone" and hit Send. She vanished. That gave me more bandwidth for messages from American girls eager and anxious for me to view them on their Webcams. At least they wouldn't be hitting on me for plane fare to the States. They're already here.

Post a CommentI was contacted by Thomas H. Hamilton Jr. of Hoston Texas through Christian Mingle. We spent hours sending emails, chatting on Yahoo messenger. He was a business owner in Houston, he has a website for that business and I found him on Linkedin. His profiles were impressive and I felt comfortable. A few days ago he told me that he was taking a business trip to Africa. We chatted when he arrived etc. Monday morning early he sent a text that he was robbed on the way to the site for the new business. He ask me to send money for air fare back home that he just wanted to get back to Houston and called off the his trip. I was a fool because frankly I cared very much and trusted him. He said he was a Christian since he was 11 years old and all our plans were based on faith and the Christian belief. He was in Accra, Ghana and after wiring the money he was gone. I feel so stupid but above all my faith in people is shattered. People quite frankly are liers. The purpose of this is that Thomas Hamilton Jr. from Houston Texa and owner of THJSAT Communications is a scam artist and a very, very good one.
Playing with a Ghana scammer and asking her questions. Same thing, father dead, she and "mum" went back. She must be new at this because I actually got her to call me. The pic she sent is from a very attractive 20ish woman but she can barely speak English. After two days of chat, she hasn't asked for $ yet. I'm wagering among me, myself, and I that it will be about another 2 chats. She claims English is her first language but writes it poorly. She has an accomplice because the writing style is different. Let's see what her "mum" looks like. LOL!
Oh forgot to add I met Joe Bruno on the Christian.Mingle dating site will not be joining any dating site ever....
Joe Bruno is a scam from Ghana,i did not want to believe but after reading about it fits usual he is asking for 3000 thou dollars but he not getting a penny claims he from Austin and has a son in Ohio he very good with words but i am glad i was not taken for a single cent he is still proclaiming love and begging for 3ooo to open an account in a bank at Ghana??????
Has anyone heard of Esther Boadu from Ghana? Shes a nurse that just graduated and her mom inherited a gold mine?
Has any one heard of Mabel Dovor? Supposedly a nurse in Accra and she is convincing. Even did strip webcams for me. Her parents were from Europe and her father went to work in gold mine in South Africa. Her father died in mining accident. Her mother remarried and they moved to Accra, Ghana where she got her nursing certificate. I was foolish enough to accept the documents as being real. She was good I will give her credit for that. Enjoyed the strip shows on webcam, glad I got something for my money.
beware of a girl named sandra dede sabbah she got me not for much till i caught on
I was approached through christiansingles.com. He came across with the profile name of Frooney. Said he lived in Newark New Jersey and was a widow of 8 years. His wife died in a car accident and he was left with a 2 year old to raise alone. He had homeschooled his daughter so where ever he was she could be with him. He had not dated until now, when he had fasted and prayed for direction wanting a Godly christian wife, and mother for his 10 year old daughter. Said he was an inporter of diamonds and gems, a business he inherited from his father. He solely supported an orphanage in Ghana of 150 children. He was convinced that as soon as he saw my picture, the Lord had told him that I was the gift He was going to give him. He said his name was Steve Williams. After a few days, supposedly his favorite orphan, that he had adopted was in a car accident and the hospital called him for money to treat him, since Ghana is cash and carry in the medical field. I was asked to help him, b
