The Ghost Whisperer: Guiding Earthbound Spirits

Nannette Richford
The show The Ghost Whisperer does a superb job of illustrating the many reasons earthbound spirits remain. Although it is a fictional series, it is based on the work of a medium, James Van Praagh, the co-executive producer of the show. The premise of The Ghost Whisperer closely matches current views regarding earthbound spirits and their many reasons for remaining earthbound.

The central character, Melinda Gordon, has recently married and opened an antique shop. She is ordinary in everyway, except for her ability to communicate with what she refers to as earthbound spirits, (spirits of those who have died but are unable to move on because they have business to complete on earth). She shares the ability with her grandmother and mentor who has since passed away. Melinda is entrusted with the responsibility to help spirits and their earthly families make amends and guiding the spirits into the light to experience peace and comfort.

The four-episode premiere featured: 1) An earthbound boy who felt responsible for his own death and was unable to leave until he resolved the issue with his parents. 2) A young teen girl who remained with her twin sister until she resolved family issues of guilt and lack of communication. 3) The spirit of a man whose heart was donated who remains to meet the person who received his heart and to say goodbye to his girlfriend. 4) A Vietnam soldier killed in battle who remained to meet is son.

This show is not for the weak at heart, as it tears at the heartstrings as earthbound spirits say their final goodbyes and pass into the light. It is a touching portrayal of what many believe to be the reality of earthbound spirits.

Whether you simply fancy the idea of earthbound spirits or have strong belief in their existence, this show will melt the heart and urge you to re-examine your own relationships and goals in life.

As a paranormal show, it appears to be right on with what psychics and mediums assure us is true and is a good look at the life of one who is blessed with the ability to communicate with the dead. Although the central character possesses the ability to see and hear the spirit world, she leads a normal life in a stable loving relationship. With the love and support of her husband, she is able to assist spirits who come to her with minimal disruption to her family life. She is absent of strange behaviors, often portrayed in the media about psychics and mediums, other than having to account for conversations with people no one else can see or hear.

If earthbound spirits exist and psychics and mediums do have the ability to communicate with them, this show goes a long way toward dispelling mistaken beliefs about the spirit world held by many. If they do not exist, it is an entertaining journey sure to touch the heart and soul of all who watch. Either way, The Ghost Whisperer is one show worth watching.

TC, I should have included both. You can view the info here:

The show is based on Mary Ann Winooski - SHE is the real ghost whisperer. Where do you get the idea its about Van Pragh? Even CBS gives HER the credit as being the person the show is based on.

Jenniver Love Hewitt is one of my favorite actresses, I don't watch Ghost Whisperer on a normal schedule, but when I do catch it on TV, I really enjoy it... :o)
