The Ghost Writer Review

Allie Bojko
Recently or should I say last week I made the decision to watch the movie The Ghost Writer without hearing or knowing anything about it, I also didn't really have any expectations for this film. I really enjoy movies that sometimes revolve only around one character and that one character in this movie being Ewan McGregor. Several of the things that really stood out to me in this movie The Ghost Writer was simply the score as well as the cinematography. I clearly loved the cinematography of the film because all of the settings were elegant and quite dashing, which was probably why every scene had a particular look. I also noticed the music from the start of the movie, it was quite strange as if there was something from this tune that was either a symbolic or foreshadowed theme. That this movie wasn't only a mystery but that there was a lot more to it than just that were not exactly sure yet. So be sure to read on to find out more about this movie it might even get you to watch this movie.

The movie starts off with Ewan McGregor being the Ghost. For some odd reason we never find out what his real name is and the movie constantly tells us this. Ewan or the Ghost is given a job by an American publishing company to basically finish off a manuscript specifically for the previous Prime Minister Adam Lang (played by Pierce Brosnan). On the other hand the Ghost isn't quite sure if he's up to the challenge to do so. Considering he isn't the only ghost writer to write up Adam Lang's memoirs, the previous writer somehow winds up dead in an apparent drowning case, this delays the Adam Lang manuscript from being published. There's really something sketchy going on here right? Your not really all that sure what's going on although it looks so obvious as to what happened. It's also great how the movie slowly unwinds itself and how all of the suspense continues to build up.

The only negative thing I have to say about this movie The Ghost Writer is that Ewan McGregor's character the ghost doesn't have a real name other than the ghost. In this movie we never find out what his name is and if we were to tell someone what this movie's about we couldn't say other than Ewan McGregor's name is The Ghost. The Ghost also doesn't have a real personality, he always seems to go with the flow, which is probably what ghost writers normally do who knows. There were several characters in the movie that were pretty much pointless like the maid that was somewhat strange and mysterious. There were also a couple of scenes that resembled those of other movies but I guess pretty much every filmmaker does that from time to time right?

The movies ending was quite the shocker I never saw that coming, that was beautifully done. The surprising twist was somewhat predictable in a way but not all that much to the point you could guess it at the very beginning of the movie. The acting cast was great especially Pierce Brosnan, he made his character very believable it's his performance that clearly stood out the most to me. The director Roman Polanski does a wonderful job in casting such actors and how he made everything in this film possible it was wonderful. He also did an excellent job in faking out scenes in Germany that were supposed to resemble those of New York and Boston were certainly incredible. I never really was a fan of Roman Polanski's work but by seeing this movie I'm certainly a big fan of his work.

Roman Polanski's a raw talent that just has the ability to best the act of filming art and can without a doubt make his movies an instant classic. I'm still mesmerized as to how beautiful the cinematography for this movie as opposed to the other movies that are made today. The script was pretty shabby although some of the components were a little to basic and quite obvious. This movie was really similar to the work of other great directors like the almighty great Alfred Hitchcock in the stories plot as well as the music chosen. Although this movie did have some minor flaws simply because of the story's script, it's not all that much of a deal breaker because it's certainly worthy for larger viewer ships. The Ghost Writer is a movie I would certainly recommend to those that generally enjoy mystery movies. I truly appreciate the individuals that have taken time out of their day to read this review I am certainly thankful for that.
