The Gift of Family: A Short Poem

What a Blessing to Be with Family!

Thomas Griffin
People people everywhere but not a one to speak

What doth belong in shelter's care has walked the street for weeks

To and fro with whistle and blow do they wisp away

Oh my soul how poor they sow of joyful art and play

But I for one will not neglect the gift that lies within

It displays with great respect the beauty of the den

For one is here and one is there just waiting to entail

All the joys of daily life and all the pains to bear

So thankful will I always be when it comes to conversation

Because I know that wind and snow can't harm my stout elation

When those outside are lonely in the arms of reality

I can rest with those who care the most: my family.

Yes, I aree with you. Having family is the greatest gift on earth. I, too feel so sorry for the homeless.

That is so awesome Michele! Jesus truly is the hope that we have when all else seems lost, because nothing will truly satisfy apart from him!

You would be correct, Phoenix. The "water water everywhere but not a drop to drink" did come from the Ancient Mariner. I kind of put a little spin on it with people :)

Thomas, this was beautiful! My husband feeds the homeless men breakfast at a local Winterhaven ministry in the mornings. Some of the men are so lonely, walking the streets all night to stay warm. Last Saturday, one of the men started to cry and shared with my husband, "I ain't got no Christmas this year, Mr. Keith" and my husband said to him, "Christmas can live in your heart all year long ...just let me tell you about my Jesus!" and the cold, lonely, homeless man was saved (over an egg and cheese sandwich!) Isn't that just like Jesus to do those things!) Cheers.

That was a wonderful dedication and reminder about family!
