The Gimmicks of Free Ringtones

An Overview of the Most Popular Free Ringtone Sites

I love changing up my ringtones on my cell phone to match how I'm feeling or how I'm feeling about the person who's calling me. When my phone goes off singing "I'm Bossy' I am letting all know around me a little about my personality. I know this is how many others feel and that's why free ringtone sites are making huge bank off of people who are being tricked into all kinds of cell phone fees.

Many ringtone sites draw you in by claiming that you can have any ringtone of your choice for free. But is this for real? I surfed the net and tested many popular websites claiming free ringtones and this is what I found:

flycell.com claims you can get 15 free ringtones, all you have to do is enter your number, the pin number they text you and choose your free ringtones. But before I tried this I found out in the very small print at the bottom of the website that when you enter in this information you are automatically signed up for a club sevice that bills you 6.99-9.99 a month. And that your free ringtones don't come in until you obtain so many credits. (You gain these credits by making monthly payments.) This doesn't sound too free to me and this also makes me wonder about those who have pay- to- go phones. How much will these payments take away from your pre-paid minutes?

Ringerman.com also prompts for phone information while disguising the information that you will be joining a club for 9.99 a month and says that you would have to save credits for 10 bonus ringtones.

Some will cost you much more then that such as, ringtonevivia.com. If you read carefully it reads that you will have to pay 5.99 a week to gain one complimentary ringtone. This enrolls you in receiving jokes and credits for 5 ringtones a month.

Very popular ringtone site, Jamster.com does offer the monthy payment of ringtones and wallpapers but actually do offer one free ringtone no strings attached but in order to get it you don't fill out the website information but scroll to the very bottom and text message the information given for one actual free ringtone.

Some such as freeringtone1.com have many ringtones that are free but you are required to fill out survey information and personal information that seems never ending. In fact once you fill out the ads you are prompted to fill out and put in your credit card information you have paid for many other products and therefore have paid for your ringtones as well.

What I do and suggest is that you go to you personal cell phone carrier and pay the amount from them to get your ringtone of choice. I have Virgin Mobile and their ringtones are only 2.50 which is much less then these monthly charges trying to find a free ringtone.

Each website do give you the option to cancel the monthly charge at any time, but when you do you stop your credits and end your opportunity to gain your complimentary ringtone in the first place.
