The Girl I Liked the Best

My Shyest Words

Dan Reveal
I have no right to bring my hardest heart
to this lonely bed that is left unmade.
So you should release your life into the multitude crowd,
and learn to walk in your own parade.

Collect the pieces from your basket bread,
for a new day is found across those lovesick miles.
Dear child, be content to play with your tea party doll,
for you are the daisy clover world of your parents' smiles.

For we come in with nothing and leave with the same,
and the prettiest song is the one you may never hear.
I can always visit the moon some other time,
but for now I have you as the porch swing candle that is just so near.

I can always visit the moon some other time,
but for now I have you as the porch swing candle that is just so near.

And life will go on for better or worse,
though I lay sleeping in the soft brown earth that gives me rest.
But at last I can say my shyest words:
"She was the girl I liked the best."

"She was the girl I liked the best."

Very good! I like the line about coming in with nothing and leaving with the same. Some people forget this and live their lives as if they're taking it all with them.
