In The Godfather, you play as a small time thug that gets welcomed into America's most feared mob organization, the Corleone family. You must do your best to carry out orders and gain respect so that you may someday be The Don and rule over New York City as the ultimate and most feared mobster. The cast from the films returns, including Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone.
How do you become the next Don? You start out small and work your way up. You do whatever you must to gain respect. Intimidate, negotiate, extort, or use violence. Shoot, punch, strangle, bang heads on counters, run people over, dangle people off roofs... whatever you want. Your duties include extortion, bank heists, drive bys, murder, and more.
Many of these classic "jobs" are from right out of the movies! Many more are all new. However you choose to do these jobs is up to you. Show your loyalty to the Corleone family and go up in the ranks. Just remember that how you choose to earn your respect and how you choose to get the job done will have consequences...
The game environment is a highly authentic 1940's looking era. All of the likenesses of the movie characters are quite realistic. Unfortunately, some of the environment gets repetitive and many of the unimportant character models are used over and over again. The voice acting, however, is incredibly accurate and will make you feel like you are right in the movie! The soundtrack also features the elegant and well known theme from the films.
The Godfather has very simple controls. The analog sticks allow you to use "pressure points" to hurt your enemies without killing them so they can give you vital information. Shooting your gun is pathetically easy, thus allowing you to execute disgusting looking headshots to anyone who pisses you off. Did I forget to mention how truly violent this game is? It is actually quite amusing! You'll just have to see.
The last feature of the game is that your character is fully customizable. Decide on hair, facial features, and mobster gear. If you want to create a handsome thug, you can. If you want an ugly brute that scares anyone with his gaze, then go right ahead.
The Godfather is available on XBOX, XBOX 360, Playstation 2, PC, and PSP. It has an ESRB rating of M for mature. This is because the game features intense violence, gore, strong language, blood, and suggestive themes. That means you youngins can't buy it. A strategy guide is available for those of you who can't seem to get anywhere.
