The Golden Girls Five Best Television Episodes

Candice W.
For seven seasons and 180 television episodes America enjoyed "The Golden Girls" and the four wonderful women that shared their lives together in a Miami, Florida home. "The Golden Girls" aired from 1985 to 1992 and featured four fictional characters: divorcee Dorothy Petrillo Zbornak, played by Bea Arthur and widows Rose Nylund, played by Betty White, Blanche Devereaux played by Rue McClanahan and Sophia Petrillo played by Estelle Getty.

Many Golden Girls fans have discovered their favorite episodes through the first run and through reruns of the show. And years later after the show has gone off the years, those favorite episodes remain.

Here are the best, the top five fan-ranked "The Golden Girls" television episodes:

The Way We Met (1986. Season 1, episode 25) In this episode, which aired to conclude of the first season, the Golden Girls have trouble sleeping one night so they sit around and reminisce on the way they met. With flashbacks made especially for this television episode we get to witness how they all came to live in Blanche's home.

One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest: Part 1 (1992. Season 7, episode 25) Many will remember this episode as it was the first part of a two-part farewell to the show "The Golden Girls." In this episode Blanche's uncle Lucas comes for a visit. When Dorothy hears that Blanche has described her in an unflattering way to her uncle, they pretend to fall in love to get even with Blanche. And they really did end up falling in love and getting engaged.

One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest: Part 2 (1992. Season 7, episode 26) Dorothy and Lucas get married in a church ceremony, but not before Dorothy's ex-husband Stan lets her know he approves of her choice and wishes her well. Sophia walks her daughter down the aisle in the lovely wedding scene. The seven-season run of "The Golden Girls" ends with an emotional and heartwarming television scene as Dorothy says goodbye to her mother, Sophia as well as Rose and Blanche.

Isn't it Romantic (1986. Season 2, episode 5) In this episode of "The Golden Girls" Dorothy's friend Jean comes to visit her in Miami. Jean, a lesbian develops a crush on Rose. In her own delicate way Rose lets Jean down easy smoothing over what could have been an even more awkward situation.

The Golden Girls: Flu Attack(a.k.a.) The Flu (1986. Season 1, episode 21) Blanche, Rose and Dorothy come down with the flu a week before the Volunteer of the Year ceremony. This makes each of the women cranky and competitive with each of them thinking that she would win the volunteer award. Sophie ends up winning the award.

I loooove this show. I still watch on Youtube, and I also watch re-runs on Hallmark. My fave epi is called "It's a Miserable Life." It's the one where the girls try to stop their mean neighbor from cutting down an oak tree. They wind up in court, Rose tells the lady to drop dead, and the woman actually falls over dead! Looove the scenes that follow where Rose feels guilty and they plan a funeral for the woman.

I also love the episode where Blanche's overweight ex-fashon model daughter comes to visit. So funny.

My late mother adored this show. I was saddened when Estelle Getty died. Wonderful read!
