The Gossip on Gossip Sites

Katie O'Connor
Visiting them may be just your guilty pleasure, or your own version of catching up on the daily news, but either way, gossip sites are more popular than ever. Such gossip mavens as Perez Hilton are hitting the scene as celebrities in their own right, snatching up their own TV appearances, magazine features and radio bits. As the thirst for the latest celebrity dish grows, so does the selection of gossip sites on the web, but which ones will appeal to you? Do you prefer your gossiper snarky and sarcastic or trashy and indulgent? Rest assured, there is a site for everyone, and here is a small selection of the best to choose from.

JustJared.com: I have to say, the most refreshing thing about "Just Jared's" site is...no pink! Unlike most gossip sites which feel the need to coat their backgrounds and text in various shades of magenta, "Just Jared" goes for the minimalist approach and uses basis primary colors. That doesn't deplete the quality of his gossip, though. "Just Jared" is similar to US Weekly in how it reads; perhaps a day or two behind the top gossip-mongers, but still holding its own. "Just Jared" has one major plus over the tried-and-true favorites - it gossips without discrimination. That is, you're not going to be reading about "Lilo" or "Brangelina" over and over. "Just Jared" has a great mix of all of your favorite stars.

Jossip.com: Advertised as "The gossip's gossip cheat sheet," "Jossip" looks much like a movie reel of celebrity whisperings. The features are laid one on top of another in a reel-fashion, making it easy to skip right along. Its stories are concise while still giving readers all the best dirt. Best of all, "Jossip" doesn't stick to just the standard celebs; news stations, magazines and political figures are all fodder for their dishing. Check out "Jossip's" "Jiblets;" just doesn't blame me when you're addicted!

PinkIsTheNewBlog.com: From the star-studded opening (check it out to understand) to the detailed dirt, this blog's author, Trent, has got the gossip website thing down to a science. His stencil-like text on celeb pictures comes off as both smart and snarky, without being cruel or just childish like some other websites. Plus, his gossip is always right on point and his humor fresh. One downside? The explosion of ads on Trent's page. If you can sift through the endorsements though, Trent's site is both funny and fearless - one not to miss.

SocialiteLife.com: Ohh, a site that takes on news, celebs, fashion, movies music and then some...could you ask for more? "A Socialite's Life," the smarmily named gossip site where "gossip is served" is a refreshing mix of everything culture - pop or not. That's not to say it's any CNN.com, but its fun and informative. It's probably the best site for TV junkies - check out their link, "The Recapist" for up-to-date TV recaps and info.

There you have it. Check out all these sites, and spread the gossip...or just enjoy an innocent break from your workday.
