The Graduation

TASALI PILA
The graduation song plays, the words running slow and rhythmic...

The Dean of your school shakes your hand,

The Dean looks you in the eye, and tells you congratulations.

You have done your best throughout these passed years.

And now you can look back and remember the good stuff.

The headaches of reading, the mind numbing numbers, the acrid scent of biology, the endless boring lectures...

You also think of the good stuff,

As in the stay up late at night to study for tomorrows test,

The last minute rush to finish your take home assignment before the due time,

The dog ate my home work this morning, as in the literal and actual sense,

Improvising a presentation, on the day of said presentation.

You also remember the great times,

The time you spent studying with your friends,

Studying and goofing around, cracking jokes and stories,

Having a great time all around...

You remember the water balloon fights, the "cream the birthday girl/boy event",

And the promise you made with your friends, to be there always for one another.

The first crush, the first kiss, the first date, and the first heartbreak...

You remember the fights between family and friends, arguments that threaten the bonds that tie.

You remember all of these and more.

You smile back at the Dean, and you take your Diploma, and you walk down the aisle to your fellow grads and friends.

Congratulations, today is your graduation day, and this is poem is for you...

Remember and smile, for the pain, the tears, the happiness, it was all worth it.
And you will treasure those times always.

The song continues to play in the background,"As we go on we remember..."
