They gathered in Columbus Circle on Mother's Day and marched through Central Park and sang their songs, "Take us out of the War Games -- " You can see them here.
Some of the grannies are in their 90s. Some brought their daughters with them. One of the grannies said, "Hey, I'm 96 yrs old, I'm not shy anymore. I guess I'm a bit of a ham."
You have to give them credit. They might not be gathering the majority of media but they sure draw a crowd. Grassroots grannies I believe them to be. They are tired and fed up like the rest of us and decided to take their message to the streets with songs like,
"We are a gaggle of grannies
Getting up off our fannies
We're telling you now
We're angry as hell
No more war."
"With all that gov't spending
For wars that seem unending
The country is broke
It isn't a joke
No more war."
It's not just the United States that they are gaining attention. They recently appeared in Winnepeg Canada and warned the crowd about C.E.T.A. (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) to the tune of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. You can listen here.
So, just what do the grannies expect will come out of all of the attention? Not much. But they are having a grand old time.
Speaking of Grand Old times, have you seen the latest advertising from Sprint? They have pulled out all of the stops for Veatrice Henson, a Missouri resident, who is about to turn celebrate her 100th Birthday.
Sprint wants to get as many folks as possible to call, email or text Veatrice to wish her a very Happy Birthday. You can view Veatrice's commercial here.
If you would like to call Veatrice to sing Happy Birthday, her number is (816)892-5407 and her email is VeatriceH@gmail.com.
Sprint says, "And thanks to Sprint's Unlimited plan, you can call or text her number, or email her address for no extra cost. So congratulate her. Sing to her. And together we can give a complete stranger the best birthday ever."
I'm going to call her this morning.
