It is almost time for one of the biggest events of the summer on the Eastside of the Metro Detroit area. It is almost time for the Gratiot Cruise to make its way through Eastpointe, Michigan.

This car show and cruise is closing in on a decade. The Father's Day weekend tradition has received Media attention across the United States in recent years because of the amount of classic cars and spectators that it brings every year.

This year, the Gratiot Cruise will take place on Saturday, June 16th, but will be ushered in with weeklong activities. There are many smaller car shows that will be hosted by different companies all along Gratiot Avenue over the week going into the Gratiot Cruise.

There are many locally born celebrities that have been spotted over the years at the Gratiot Cruise. Jeff Daniels, Uncle Kraker, Eminem, Kid Rock, and Mike Modano have all been reported at one time or another at the Gratiot Cruise.

You will not only see a lot of classic cars at the Gratiot Cruise, but you will also see a large amount of great sales along Gratiot. Many vendors will come out for the Cruise, and many of the stores along the stretch will usually run great deals for car watchers.

If you are going to the Gratiot Cruise, make sure that you try to get there as early as possible. All of the major parking lots along the two-mile stretch of the cruise usually are reserved for those who are displaying classic cars. The local side streets usually fill up quickly with people who are interested in the Cruise.

There are bleachers that are set up on the island medians of Gratiot, but these usually fill up very quickly in the morning. There are also many people that will bring their own seats and set them up along the key spots along the Gratiot Cruise path.

If you are going to walk around, make sure that you bring comfortable shoes. If you are going to walk around the entire stretch, remember that you are going to be walking at least a total of four miles.

You will see a lot of vendors that are going to be selling beverages. Make sure that you take advantage of these. You will also see some Churches that are giving out free water. I will usually stop at these and re-hydrate myself since the Gratiot Cruise is usually on a hot day in the summer.

The Gratiot Cruise is one of the biggest events on this side of town. It is sometimes a great place to see local celebrities, and some of those that you read about in celebrity magazines. It is something that I suggest to anyone who is in the area during Father's Day Weekend.
