The Great Pacific Garbage Patch: No Plans to Clean it Up?

No One Seems to Think It's Their Problem

Much of our planet's garbage is non-biodegradable plastics. With a waste problem that will take a million years or more to even begin degrading, no one seems to be interested in doing anything to decrease or stop it. All the waste from around the world that is dumped into our oceans invariably follows its way around the planet's oceanic currents until it comes to rest upon a giant swirling eddy that seems to be like a black hole for garbage. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is so full of plastics that mammals and fish alike are ingesting it against their will, and dying of starvation because their bodies cannot process or rid itself of the pollutant.

It's Not Real Estate... It's Garbage!

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is currently about the size of Texas and lies approximately between Northern California and Hawaii. It contains over 3 million tons of trash. It is thick enough in many spots for a man to walk on its surface and support his weight. Birds flock to it because it's the only place to land for hundreds of miles, and end up ingesting trash accidentally while foraging.

No One Wants To Clean It Up!

With such a global disaster in the making, who's going to start the effort to clean it up? The answer is very simple. No one is. There are currently no serious efforts to clean up the garbage, and it is being left to grow exponentially day after day. If this things remain business as usual, the planets fish may be so full of toxins they will be unsafe to eat!
