The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is the world's most known wall. Over ten thousand li long, it was built to defend China from Mongol invaders. Though it failed to stop Genghis Kahn, it is one of the world's most fascinating structures.

A legend about the Great Wall of the China is one about the Shanhaiguan pass. The Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang ordered his marshal, Xuda and a military counselor, Liu Bowen, to find a place for a wall around Beijing within two years. The two find a suitable place and return to get construction people to build it. In a year and eight months they were done and returned to the emperor. The emperor asked if they had finished. They replied before the emperor asked, "Have you named the pass yet?" Before Xuda could say anything, Liu Bowen said, "We did not dare name it without your permission, your majesty. It is near the sea and the mountain. Please name it that." The emperor said, "Good idea, just name Shanhaiguan pass!" Later that day, Liu Bowen told Xuda that he would leave the empire and told him to never leave the emperor and told him to leave his son at the pass they made. Two of Xuda's friends, Hu Dahai and Chang Yuchun, came over and wanted to send their sons to the pass as well. Later on Liu Bowen left and Hu Dahai and Chang Yuchun died in a fire but Xuda lived because he stayed with the Emperor no matter if the Emperor wanted him out. Their descendants built a temple of Xuda and tombs for Hu Dahai and Chang Yuchun.

Some great areas are the Wife Tower, Shanhaiguan, Jiayuguan, Yumenguan, Beacon Tower, and many others.
