The Great Wall Chinese Buffet in Granite City, Illinois - a Restaurant Review

There is nothing like having a great take-out night. Chinese food is part of our weekend menu, and most of the time we order out and get it delivered. I decided to change things up a bit and try the Great Wall Chinese Buffet in Illinois. It's a bit far from my house but it was the only one I knew about and was up for a change. My husband and I drove about 25 minutes to Nameoki Road in Granite City. I'm not a real fan of Granite City because of all the violence that's been happening for the past few months but since it was day time, I figured we could enjoy dinner and get back safely to our side of town.

The Great Wall Chinese Buffet is a Chinese food restaurant that offers so many different types of Chinese meals at an affordable price. We didn't pay over $8 for our meal and we were able to eat as much as we wanted. When we first got there, it was quite and pretty empty. I assumed that they didn't have much of a rush during the time we went. I was already happy because of the price we paid so I went into the dining area on a happy note. The waitress wasn't very nice, that I can remember. She barely talked English but that was to be expected. Once my husband and I got our silverware, we went up to the buffet to see what they had.

They offered four different types of shrimp, four different types of beef and a few chicken selections. I'm a vegetable person so I was looking forward to getting a hold of their beef and broccoli dish. Well guess what? They were running low on the beef and broccoli so I had to wait 20 minutes before they brought it out.

During my wait, I ate on a few crab Rangoon which were cold! I hate eating cold crab Rangoon, considering the ingredients, it's suppose to be warm at least. Disappointed about the crab Rangoon ,which mind you is my all time Chinese favorite, I ate on some beef low mien. It was ok, nothing to really brag about because I am used to my beef low mien a little on the sweet side. I did enjoy the cocktail shrimp though. They were pretty decent in size and perfectly chilled. The drinks were a bit watered down so I really didn't enjoy my lemonade all that much.

The environment was nice, they had a great fish tank at the front of the restaurant and with beautiful paintings surrounding the entire room. Even though the waitress wasn't all that nice she was on time with everything. Whenever I wanted something else to drink she was right on time. She made sure we had everything that we needed and that was why we made sure she got a tip despite her disposition.

The experience was an ok one, It wasn't worth us driving back out to revisit. I would rather stay home and order in. I did enjoy the idea of eating at a Chinese buffet, I just didn't really like the Great Wall as much as I thought I would.
