The restaurants, arcades, mini golf, and spas are really just icing on the cake. The real reason to go to the Great Wolf Lodge is to go to Bear Track Landing Waterpark. Take a tube and float along the lazy river. Play basketball in one of the swimming pools. Watch your children spray water guns off the top of the tree house fort. Just be careful of where you stand! There is a bucket on top of the tree house that fills up with 1,000 gallons of water every five minutes. It then dumps over the top of the tree house. Luckily, they do sound a warning bell.
You will have the option of several different types of suites such as the Family Suite, Wolf Den Suite, and Kid Cabin. The Wolf Den Lodge is the one that I am most familiar with. It has a large plastic cave inside that houses a set of bunk beds and a television. It also had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine.
The best part of the Great Wolf Lodge is their attention to the little details. At 8 P.M., you can go down to their 3 story lobby with the Great Clock Tower and watch the animatronic puppet show. Then shortly after that, one of the staff will sit down and read a story to the children.
With the good, there has to be some bad. They require everyone to wear a wrist bracelet in the water park at all times. This in and of itself isn't a problem. However, should you lose your bracelet, you will have to pay $20 to get a replacement. Their wristbands will easily fall off a small child's wrist forcing replacement. This policy would be better done away with for guests as it is in their records how many guests are in the room.
You should also be prepared to get quite the workout in. The slides are located at the very top of the room which means 4 flights of steps for each trip down a slide.
If you don't want to spend all your vacation at the hotel, you can go shopping at Legends right across the street.
The Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City is definitely a must visit vacation spot for families in the Midwest.
