The Guide to Eating and Exercising at Work

Terry Edwards
In today's society with the hectic work pace, it can be easy to forgo eating the right foods or getting any type of physical activity in. It doesn't need to always be that way. Here are some ideas that help even the busiest of executives become more healthy and fit on the job.

Eating Better At Work

1. Bring your own lunch. Cut out the daily trips to the local burger or taco joint. This alone will help anyone become more healthy. Those meal deals come with a heavy price, mainly a ton of unwanted fat, carbohydrates, and calories.

Bringing your lunch gives you the control over your eating habits. You can bring in soups, sandwiches, salads, fruit, etc.

2. If you do have to eat a lunch away from the office, go somewhere that is 1/2 mile away and walk. You would be amazed at how beneficial this will be.

3. Drink bottled water at work, or diet sodas if necessary. Water is the best thing you can give your body, and most people don't drink enough of it every day.

4. Leave any kind of snack foods away from your desk. Why tempt yourself throughout the day?

5. At your next business meeting, set up trays with fresh fruit, bottled water, and veggies, instead of high fat, high calorie foods.

6. Avoid the office vending machine. These machines are generally stocked with every type of food and snack that isn't what your body needs. In fact, you might talk with the vending company about putting in more healthy food like protein bars, etc.

Getting More Exercise At Work

1. Keep a pair of tennis shoes at work. This may sound odd, but when you have a break, whether it's lunch or whenever, put them on and take a walk around the building.

2. If you live within a reasonable distance of your job, then walk to work whenever possible. Not only will it make you healthier, but it will save you money on transportation.

3. Walk to a co-workers desk to give them a message instead of sending an email.

4. When you need to use the restroom, use the one that is the farthest from your desk.

5. If your office is above the first floor, take the steps instead of the elevator. Walking up and down steps is some of the best exercise you can get.

6. This may seem off the wall, but hold a meeting outside the office while walking. Not only is it good exercise, but it helps with creativity. Think about how many ideas and thoughts your mind comes up with when you walk. It works.

If you work in an office environment, try some of these tips. If you will, then you'll begin seeing yourself losing some weight and becoming more healthy.
