The newest Guitar Hero game added to the family was released June 29, 2008 called Guitar Hero Aerosmith. This is the first Guitar Hero game that has been specifically dedicated to one band. Guitar Hero Aerosmith has the same basic principles as the other games in the family. There are 4 levels at Career Mode level, the farther along you are in your career, the harder the songs get. The better you play a song, the more money you make as well to go spend on other songs, better guitars, and cooler outfits. There are a couple of things that are different in this Guitar Hero version. First, you have to play every song in order to advance to the next one. In previous Guitar Hero games, you would only have to play say 4 of the 5 songs in a set and then you could advance to the next set of songs. Another difference, which made this game so special, is the actual band is singing the songs on the band, not just a cover band singing their version of it.

I like how the different locations where you play in Guitar Hero Aerosmith are actual places that Aerosmith played at through different stages in their career. It starts out at a high school gymnasium and progresses all the way up to the half time show at the Super Bowl. I also like how there is an opening act cover band at each new gig that you have to master before Aerosmith comes out on stage. Before you start at a new gig, there are interview clips of that band talking about the venue and little tidbits about it. It is kind if funny to see the band turned into Guitar Hero cartoons. I also liked how the bang changes wardrobes instead of wearing the same thing throughout the entire game. In past versions of Guitar Hero, you had to pay money to get your character to change outfits, while the rest of the band remained the same.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith contains a wide variety of the bands music, spanning over their entire career. There were more older songs on there than I expected, a lot from the 70's. A lot of the teens who play this game may never have even heard the songs before, but nevertheless, will still enjoy rocking out to them. I didn't know every song and still had a blast playing it. I bought the game the day it came out and had it beat on Medium level within 5 days. I think this is due in part to there only being a little over 30 songs on this game, versus about 20 more on Guitar Hero III. Overall though, I think this game is a hit and I am curious to see if and when other bands are given the honor of having their own video game Guitar Hero!

I like the game, I was able to play it at the local bar actually. They seem to have theme nights for rock band and guitar hero. However I really wish they had updates for the Wii. They have updates for the other systems and song generators for the PC.

Aerosmith is classic. Funny, I never really noticed them til the 80s :) I didn't know they existed before then.
