The Hall of Lust: Mandy Moore

Wes Laurie
Mandy Moore sang and danced on to the pop music scene with the video for "Candy." I thought the music was generic and boring, but Mandy herself was anything but; judging off of physical appearance. She had the face of an angel, but angelic things were not the thoughts she inspired in me.

The "Candy" video got her noticed by me, but not in such a way that I was immediately developing a crush. However, as she got older and her music remained bland, she blossomed even more in the beauty department. Her personality from the interviews and tidbits of information I have had flutter in for digestion seem to point towards her having a personality just as attractive; who knows? Maybe her husband, but not me. I just have the fantasy version of her and we don't talk.

At one point when I was younger I actually bought a Mandy Moore calendar. It was not filled with any risqué photographs per-say, but a few of the months were hot enough to win my affections. Later in her career with the music video for "In My Pocket," Mandy teased me with sex appeal as a belly dancer type, sexy from her head to the rings on her toes. Other music videos of hers were sexy as well, though tame compared to many of her counterparts, which perhaps is the source of my attraction. She was a fresh face in an over-sexed market. She made the statement that women can be appealing without having to make statements about how in touch they are with their sexuality or by singing about love slave perversions and wearing next to and sometimes nothing.

Mandy Moore transitioned into a career as a movie actress quite seamlessly. Once again, like her music, I was not exactly a fan of the material, but tuned in to check her out. In the "American Idol" inspired movie "American Dreamz" she stepped her game up somewhat, playing a self-centered celebrity wannabe to perfection. You wanted to hate the character, buy Mandy's charm also made you fall for the character in a dirty, desperate sort of way. In 2010 she voiced Rapunzel in the movie "Tangled" and somehow her voice fueled sex appeal even there, making it okay to have the hots for a cartoon character, almost on-par with the sex appeal of "The Little Mermaid."

Mandy Moore has not lost any sex appeal in my eyes from the very start of her appearance on my celebrity crush radar. She seems like a swell gal and I look forward to more movies with her in them, though I have doubts that any of her music is truly going to turn me on beyond visuals of her in a video. Time will tell I suppose, she has swayed somewhat more towards a folky hippie style of music as opposed to the bubblegum pop.
