The Hall of Lust: Pink!

Wes Laurie
When the singer known as Pink came into popularity I did my best to ignore her. She was a pop/ R & B singer, which was not my genre of choice, plus she had short hair; at the time I did not dig women with short hair. Now that I am older hair is not so important, I'm sure if Pink were bald I'd still give her the time of day. I also think I should have given her music a more serious listen back then.

When I was around nineteen or twenty, my mother was dating a guy who had a serious sound system in his house. Late one night I was allowed to go to his home when no one else was there to play with the massive speakers and sound board, but the only music at my disposal was his weak cd collection. At first I was grooving to some depressing Matchbox 20 stuff, but then tried out a Pink CD, her second album: "Missundaztood." The soul and tone in her voice hooked me in on the song "Family Portrait." I listened to that album many times through, but still tucked Pink into the back of my mind, not a true fantasy girl yet.

If you watch the "Behind The Music" special about Pink and her life, you can still see the spunky trouble maker in her. When she was a teenager I bet I would not have been able to stand her. The trials and troubles she put herself through, however, has potentially developed her all for the better into the woman and artists she is now.

In 2008 Pink came out with the album titled "Funhouse" and I was ready to walk into that house with her. I recalled her liking her voice many years before and found this album dripping with lots more of that. I began going back through her career and checking out her music videos, and enjoying the thought put behind most of them, the creativity, the fun entertainment value. Off of the album "Funhouse" the music video for the track "Sober" was especially sexy. In it Pink has a sexual encounter with herself thanks to some CGI magic. I don't know much that can top that for hotness, really, you would think it too taboo and bizarre, but not at all. Her concert tour promoting the "Funhouse" album was a spectacle that not only showcased her strong voice, but her acrobatic skills as well. She would spend sections of the show strapped into some bed sheet like harness contraptions, singing, and spinning in revealing outfits. Even if you never had a "thing" for any circus trapeze artists as a kid, you could appreciate the sexiness of Pink's show.

Pink's music is always my first attraction to her. I am not going to say I like every song or identify with some of the songs with generic pop song content about getting parties started, or what-have-you. But, I am a fan of her voice and think she is a really great singer, so I am always willing to open my ears to see if I am going to like a song. I also always make sure to check out her music videos because she tells some quirky stories.
