Whenever we passed those halls, we could feel it. A chill would climb up our spine; a heavy weight would take over our breaths. I would feel immobilized with a sudden fear. That placed was cursed. There was something bothering that being, that unknown presence, causing it to have evil thoughts.
Then came the day it took us as prisoners. One could not even imagine how traumatizing it was. We had to get out, but how does one escape the unseen? How do you know when you have gotten away? * * *
The school was built on an invisible forest. The forest has been dead for millions of years, but the memories of the trees still remain. Something stands in the place where the trees once stood. The way they feel and smell are the exact same way they were those million years ago. Now, the forest cannot be seen, yet it still seems as if it was standing there.
There is a rule to the forest. You cannot leave if you have strayed off the path. This can prove difficult seeing the fact that the forest grounds are invisible.
I do not know how we had gotten out of the school. It seemed a miracle. The others were out of my view. Only Sam and I were left behind. The only thing on my mind was to get away from the school. I paid no attention to the cuts and scratches obtained from constantly running into the unseen trees.
"Phaerest!" Pealyr called. " Phaer! You're supposed to stay on the path!"
Even as those words came hurtling out of her mouth, I could feel the forest grip pushing me back.
"How the hell am I suppose to stay on a path I can't SEE?" I screamed, trying to resist the forest pull. As soon as the forest released me, I started to run. Pealyr was out of my sight range. I was left all alone. I could feel the being become aware that our presence was missing. Time was short.
Right at the intersection, the forest once again began to pull me in. I would not heed. It took all of my brain power and what little strength I had to resist. Walking then became the hardest thing to do. With each passing second, my escape chances slimmed. The being was catching up.
At long last I broke free, but there was no time to savour my victory. I quickly jumped into a passing van. The last thing I saw before retreating into complete darkness were five familiar and frightened eyes. (15 years later)
Sam, Wolf, and I were going to go to a shopping mall. It was in a city we had left 15 years ago. None of us could remember why we had left in the first place, but it seemed like a good idea to go and visit it again. All of our faces were flushed from laughter. Even my pale face had a tinge of pink in it.
"Ow" I said, falling on to Wolf.
"What happened?" he asked.
"I walked into something"
"Phaer, there's nothing there."
We both reached out, our hands stopping as something blocked our way.
"Funny." He said "it feels as if it's a tree"
"This brings back a faint memory" Phaerest! I removed my hand. I was probably hallucinating. Phaer! You're supposed to stay on the path! "C'mon, we'd better catch up to the others." How the hell am I suppose to stay on a path I can't SEE!
" Hey Phaer, Wolf." Bear called as we caught up to them. "Did ya guys know this mall once was a school?"
That got to Sam "Shows how much they value education"
Laughing, we entered the mall.
After a few hours of wandering we came upon a hallway. My breath got heavy, and I got goosebumps on my skin. Near the end of the hall way we could see a faint outline of a person. Wolf and I all froze. Sam continued down the hallway.
"I really don't think you should go down there."
"C'mon, what could possibly happen?"
"Sam..."
Phaer didn't want to leave her, but fear took over her. She and Wolf bolted toward the doorway. The doors wouldn't open.
A voice called behind us. "You didn't think you could get away that easily"
We awoke back in the hallway.
