The Hamptons Diet - a Low Carbohydrate Miracle?

Summer Banks
After Dr. Robert Atkins popularized the Atkins Diet, a low carbohydrate, high fat weight loss plan, many doctors and weight loss experts created their own low carb plans. The Hamptons Diet is the one most closely associated with Atkins - but will it increase weight loss?

Dr. Fred Pescatore developed the Hamptons Diet after stepping down as the medical directors for the Atkins diet camp. Unlike many other weight loss authors, Dr. Pescatore is a medical doctor. The Hamptons Diet is the author's best-selling book, but is the diet that far off from the Atkins Diet that dieters can expect an easier plan to follow with fewer restrictions?

What is Different About The Low Carb Weight Loss Plan?

The Hamptons Diet stresses healthy fats instead of simply stressing fats in general, which is a common complaint about the Atkins Diet. Omega 3 fatty acids and fish are also important when following the Hamptons Diet plan. The biggest difference between the Atkins Diet and weight loss plan and the Hamptons Diet is the inclusion of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Atkins does not allow these during the induction phase or during ongoing weight loss, in most cases.

The Hamptons Diet is a self-proclaimed fusion between Atkins and the Mediterranean Diet, so foods like olives and avocados are acceptable, despite being higher in carbohydrates. Macadamia nut oil is mentioned in the book description, on the official Dr. Fred Pescatore website and throughout customer reviews of the Hamptons Diet book. According to some consumers, Dr. Pescatore pushes a specific type of macadamia nut oil for followers of the Hamptons Diet. This product, MacNut Oil is connected to Dr. Pescatore. This connection obscures the earnest weight loss qualities of the book, just a bit.

Most of the Hamptons Diet book is dedication to recipes. The book description states, "About half the book consists of a 30-day menu plan." Consumers are not thrilled with the fact that so much room in the book is dedicated to bland recipes with MacNut Oil.

The Final Results of the Hamptons Diet

There is little doubt that increasing lean meats, vegetables, omega 3 fatty acids and whole grains will improve overall health and promote weight loss - if consumed in moderation. Whether the Hamptons Diet book is the best means of learning how to eat lower carbohydrate with a Mediterranean Diet push is hard to say. If the book is more about pushing MacNut Oil and recipes than giving dieters instructions on how to lose weight, support during weight loss and resource for continued weight loss, the Internet may offer better information than the Hamptons Diet book.
