The Hangover

Movie Review

It's a funny world; one minute you have no plans and then a good friend drops tickets for a private sneak peek to a film you were planning to see next week. Such was the case of how I came to be sitting in a small theatre waiting to watch The Hangover.

Commercials can only show so much of what happens in this movie for very good reason. The whole thing has a very Fear and Loathing kind of touch to it. It streaks past all the glints and glamour of Las Vegas and goes straight to the insane disorientation that follows a night in Sin City. The story as to why the group of friends are in Vegas is the standard bachelor party routine, but with some very interesting players. Alan (Zach Galifianakis), Stu (Ed Helms), and Phil (Bradley Cooper) all awake the morning after the party with killer hangovers and without the slightest clue why their room in destroyed, filled with weird paraphernalia, and missing the groom Doug (Justin Bartha). The three decide to start tracing back their steps in order to discover at what point in a night they can't recall they lost him. Slowly the bread crumbs are uncovered in the forms of such things as a hospital bracelet, a baby, a squad car, and a three hundred pound tiger.

This film doesn't go off the deep end, it starts there and the three friends have to crawl their way out of the stupor they got themselves into the night before. Alan is probably the best character out of the group as he was already pretty far gone before they arrived in Vegas. In fact his own father played by Jeffery Tambor admits that there is something wrong with Alan. He has some very choice one liner material in the movie that only further validate that fact.

The interesting thing about the journey these friends take constantly gets weirder and weirder. Fairly soon you wonder how they could have gotten into so much trouble in just one night. To which you can only reply "That's Vegas Baby". I don't want to give too much about this movie away because it really is that much fun to watch. I've laughed at many films and this one actually left me crying from the jokes. So let's just leave it at the fact you really have to go see this film or rent it because I'm serious when I say that it's probably the funniest I've seen in a long time.

I did not find it funny. A chuckle here and there, but mostly random crap I could have written in the second grade
