Mr. Shyamylan I have one question for you. Why?
I have to admit, the idea was great. I was definitely excited to see it. The previews were enticing as well. The idea that there could be some mass infection that made people want to injure, kill, or mame themselves was very interesting!
I did not see it in the theater but I did rent it. I left the movie store, headed home, made popcorn, got a soda, and popped in the movie.
When the movie started, my stomach sank. It was as if I could sense this movie was going to be sub par. Immediately I noticed the shotty and obvious acting. As the movie progresses, it becomes very predictable. I continued to watch hoping I could salvage movie night and still enjoy the movie. Well, that is until they revealed how the 'disease' was spreading.
The plants. Yes that's what I said, the PLANTS. Apparently large groups of people set off some kind of defensive reaction in the plants that sent airborne viruses that the humans would inhale and make them want to kill themselves. If you were in a group of three or less, you were fine. I guess that wouldn't piss off the local shrubs.
The movie in a nutshell:
People start killing themselves and dropping off of buildings,
People begin panicing,
People leave populated areas,
People die off more and more and end up breaking up into very small groups,
Wahlburg figures it out,
Wahlburg and love interest (with child) find a crazy old ladies house
Old lady gets infected while Wahlbur and love interest talk through a pipe from two different (apparently) old slave houses,
They decide to be together when they die,
They run outside,
Plague magically stops.
Thats it.
Don't waste your time. It's a cool idea, but the movie just ruins it.
