Are you an energy drink fanatic, as some of us are? Or would you rather fill up on those sugar filled, supposedly low calorie sodas on a hot day? Well, before you head to the store to stock up on these drinks, think about the harmful effects there having on your overall health. It's been reported that some of the popular energy drinks boost more than just your get - up - and -go, says scientists and Wayne State University in Detroit. Even in healthy adults, but especially in children, consuming two cans of any energy drink can raise your blood pressure by at least 10 points, sometimes more. And it can raise your heart rate by up to 7 beats per minute. Which can have lasting damage over time to your health. This is a significant elevation to people who have high blood pressure or heart disease, and guzzle energy drinks everyday.

Energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and amino acids, called taurine, which is what causes your heart rate and blood pressure to be raised. Some people tend to choose soft drinks instead of energy drinks. However, you should be aware that these have health risks to. In a Boston study done recently in a study of more than 6,000 people, scientists found that those who drink as few as one soda per day, even diet; were much more likely to develop high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other risks factors for heart disease and diabetes. The bottom line is that the best thing for you to drink on a hot day would be just plain ole water. With all the negative health aspects of soda and energy drinks, which are the popular drinks of choice for many people, water is the only one that actually has health benefits, instead of impacting your health in a negative way.

Water can boost your metabolism and works to help you burn off calories faster. Is can also fill up your stomach so that you fill full faster. In studies published by the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, researchers found that within 10 minutes of drinking about a pint of water, metabolic rates in women and men were raised by about 25-30 percent. Drinking this much water every day could burn an additional 17,400 calories a year, which means you would lose 5 pounds, just from drinking a pint of water per day, how easy is that? So with all the wonderful benefits water can add to your health, who wouldn't choose water over those popular sugar filled energy drinks and sodas.
