The Haunted Elementary Schools in Indiana

While the state of Indiana has a number of haunted high schools, there are even more haunted elementary schools and middle schools. Some believe this is because younger children are more susceptible to the supernatural. Given the number of haunted schools in Indiana, maybe there's something to that theory.

The school gym in Aulfordsville is haunted by a number of ghostly children. Locals sometimes hear kids playing inside late at night, but find the building empty. The ruins of an old school in Bellmore are also haunted. People claim to hear someone screaming and feel cold spots or the air grow colder all around them. Supposedly a student was killed in the school and the killer hid his body in the boiler.

In Bloomington you have the haunted Binford Elementary School. One ghost was once a janitor of the school. Three students pushed him into a closet and killed him, back when the school held older kids. He is now seen roaming through the school wearing a black coat. A different man covered in black is sometimes seen in the auditorium.

Selysions Private School is Cedar Lake is abandoned now, but that hasn't stopped the ghosts. This small school was once an all boys school. According to legend, the pastor looking out for the boys went crazy one night and killed all of his charges. There are stories of screams and cries from inside the school, strange orbs, voices, and even the ghosts of children sitting at their desk. However many locals claim that the school closed due to a funding issue and that no one ever died there.

The Kahler School in Dyer is haunted by the woman the school was named after: Agnes Kahler. Agnes makes things move, opens the lockers, closes doors and even makes the toilet flush. There are also stories about the ghost of a boy running through the halls and many people claim to feel someone watching them. The school tore down the haunted section, but the stories still persist.

In Evansville you should look for the haunted school near Dogtown. This school is supposedly the site of a brutal string of murders during the 1930's. A man raped two little girls in the basement before killing them. He then went upstairs and killed the other students left.

Another abandoned school that is haunted is in Flora, Indiana. Not far away from the school is an old cemetery and some people believe those people are the ghosts inside the building. There are stories of people talking and moving things inside the school.

Gas City's Old East School has a haunted playground. It seems like the kids who had so much fun there don't want to leave. People hear kids laughing and see the equipment moving when no one else is around. The Saint Casimir's School in Hammond is haunted by several ghosts: a janitor, a female student, and several students who died in a fire. There are reports of people feeling someone looking at them, hearing strange things, and seeing a girl in the bathroom.

The Horace-Mann School in Huntington is now an apartment complex, but people still see children wandering around and hear them playing late at night. Visitors to the I.P.S. School #50 in Indianapolis sometimes feel cold spots and hear someone or something banging on the walls.

In Jonesboro you can find the J.C. Knight School. There are stories that a janitor killed himself in the gym and that a cheerleader was later murdered in the same spot. People see strange things inside the gym, including a strange light that glows either red or white.

Lake Station has the haunted River Forest Junior High School gym. Supposedly a student was trying to save his pet when he drowned in the school swimming pool. The pool was filled in and tennis courts built on the spot, but people still hear the sounds of the boy there.

Elementary East in Loogootee is also haunted. A janitor once killed himself in the boy's bathroom. The spot where he died supposedly has a red stain on the floor that won't go away. There are also stories of people hearing the man walking through the halls, or seeing a dog in the hallways late at night. Rumor says that he would sometimes bring his dog to the school.

The middle school in Lowell is haunted by a child that once drowned in the school swimming pool. Janitors and teachers in the school late at night hear someone walking around on the third floor and see things moving.

The old abandoned school house in New Corydon is also haunted. A teenager supposedly died there during the 1960's and can now be seen looking out of the window. People claim to see shadows moving inside the school.

North Webster Elementary in North Webster is also haunted. The ghost of a little boy in a blue shirt is sometimes seen in the building and he likes to turn off the lights. Sometimes people see him in the library near the checkout desk. There are also some people who hear a woman in high heels walking around the second floor.

In the Portage area you'll find the haunted Crisman school, while the Prill School in Rochester is also haunted, this time by Sister Sarah. There are rumors that the woman was killed in the area and now haunts the old school, in particular a tree outside.

The Sacred Heart School in Vincennes has a few ghosts. People claim to see strange footprints in the dust built up on the floor and feel someone push them. The Miami school in Wabash also has some strange activity reported. Rumor claims that the gym was the scene of a gruesome murder spree and people still hear the screams. There are also stories that someone anonymously threatened the school before burning it down. To cap it all off, the Cumberland School in West Lafayette is home to a strange ghostly man who stands near the window.

Hmmm ... very interesting. I know of the old Horace Mann school; I'll have to keep a lookout next time I'm around!
