In Rockbridge Ohio, near Gibisonville you will find a hotbed of strange activity. Many area residents have reported bigfoot sightings in the area of State Route 678 and Keister Road. These Bigfoot sightings are nothing new. Residents have been making these claims since around 1880, and to the present day young and old alike report seeing Bigfoot at night, and he is always near the woods. A man, who has recently passed away Mr. Voorhees, told of a footprint embedded in the caves near his home that had to belong to this Bigfoot creature. It is fun trying to spot the creature, whether or not it is true.
A few miles away from the famed Bigfoot spot you will find a sleepy village called Gibisonville. Upon first sight, you would not believe it is possible for any scary event to occur in this lovely village. However the locals tell of several uneasy spirits who rest here. My favorite stories include a story of a young woman, her name was Lorna and she was mentally ill. Old timers will tell you she was a witch, but I found no evidence to support this. The legend goes that on a cold night in January of 1950, Lorna Racket's was walking home from the General Store. She had gone in to the village to purchase a few items. As it was very dark outside, and cold Lorna was hurrying home. It was a two-mile walk out Cream Ridge Road from the store. Lorna was walking home and stumbled into a ditch. Lorna fell and broke her leg. She tried to walk, and could not. She tried to crawl and drag herself home. Lorna must have known that it was very unlikely for any one to pass by this route, as her home was quite desolate. Unfortunately she did not make it home, she was found two days later. Lorna Racket's had frozen to death. Her small sack of groceries found by her frozen body. On a snowy night Lorna is seen on Cream Ridge Road, she is hurrying to make it home. She never arrives. Several people claim to have stopped and tried to give this mysterious woman a ride, for her to vanish before their eyes.
In Logan Ohio, you will find a dilapidated house on Church Street. It is presently lived in, for reasons unknown. This house is located in the 1100 block and is a duplex. This house was built in the 1800's and should have been torn down many years ago. This house is scary and sinister. In the year of 1999 I spent one terrible night in this house. Unexplainable noises came from the third floor. I could hear piano music, and it unnerved me .The bathroom is in the basement, and as I made my way down to the basement I was shocked to see a young girl standing in the corner dressed in black. I was so scared that I turned and ran back upstairs and informed my hostess of what I saw. She laughed. Winnie told me " So you met Melissa? She has been in that corner every night since I have lived here. She is a bad girl, she opens the doors of the house." Apparantly this ghost called Melissa opens all doors in the residence and has been doing so since the family got a dog. Winnie explained" At first Melissa just moved things, and we could not throw away this dinosaur we found upstairs. Believe me I tried and every morning it was back in the upstairs bedroom. When we adopted our dog she started opening doors. Melissa told my daughter she is afraid of the dog." How creepy!
Hocking County will appeal to ghost hunters and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
