The Haunted Hospitals of Ohio

The idea of a haunted hospital in Ohio is a fairly popular one. The state has long since been plagued with rumors of a haunted hospital attraction at Halloween, a place so scary that no one has ever made it through the entire building. While the legend isn't true that doesn't mean that they aren't a few real haunted hospitals in Ohio.

The Heather Hills Hospital in Chardon is one such haunted place. Here hospital employees report seeing the ghost of a young boy running loose through Area C late at night. The boy is always seen in old-fashioned clothing and many patients have lodged complaints to the staff about the nuisance. Patients have also heard someone, or something knocking on the walls of their room, even when the adjoining rooms are unoccupied.

The Cleveland area is home to two haunted hospitals: Highland View and Poole Hospital. At the Poole Hospital people report feelings of someone staring at them and see odd things turn up in pictures they took there. Patients at Highland View Hospital see the window shades move and hear someone locking their door when no one is on the other side.

Cleveland also has the haunted Mt. Sinai Hospital. People see movement from the corner of their eye, hear people walking around, and have problems with the lights. Most of the activity is reported in the old school building next to the hospital.

In Columbus you can visit two haunted hospitals. The Children's Hospital was supposedly built on top of an old cemetery. At night people feel someone watching them and see things moving in the shadows. Walnut Knolls was once a mental hospital, and some of its old residents stuck around. Though the building is now an apartment complex, residents believe there is a spirit who likes to throw things at them. They also see things and lights in empty apartments.

There are also two haunted hospitals in Dayton, Ohio. St. Elizabeth's or the Dayton Heart Hospital is haunted by a ghost who likes to move things. He causes the elevators to move, opens locked doors, and locks doors at times. People working have also felt cold spots and heard someone moaning in pain. The ghosts of children haunt the inpatient area of the local Hospice. Many of the patients have complained about the kids, and some staff members have seen them as well.

Head south to Portsmouth and you'll find the Hallmark Care Center. The most common story told there is of African American children. Some people have complained to the staff about the kids waking them up in the middle of the night, or sitting on their bed. The kids are also heard playing in the attic and giggles sometimes waft down from the area. The kids also like to play with the water faucets.

If you travel to Toledo, make sure to visit the haunted State Hospital. People see doors opening and closing, and hear someone moaning. There are also stories of dark shadows moving through the hallways. In Wellington you'll find an office building that was once a hospital. Workers in the building have reported seeing a woman walking along the stairs and in some hallways.

One last haunted hospital in Ohio is the St. John Westshore Hospital in Westlake. Visitors have seen the ghost of a little girl reflected behind them in mirrors, and patients sometimes see man in a hospital gown walking through the halls. There are also stories of things moving on their own.

The haunted hospital attraction may be fake, but Ohio has more than enough real haunted hospitals to keep you entertained long past Halloween.
