The Healing Power of Green Tea

Green tea is nothing new. We have all heard of it, and most likely partaken in it at one time or another. Maybe you even drink it on a regular basis. But are you aware of the complete healing power of green tea? Most people are not.

Green tea contains potent epigallocatechin gallates (EGCGs), which are powerful antioxidants proven to help reduce many serious illnesses and diseases, including cancer, LDL cholesterol levels, formation of blood clots, as well as preventing heart attacks and strokes. While many people take this widely available supplement fore granted, green tea saves lives and dramatically reduces the risk of cancers and other serious risks.

The EGCGs found in green tea, attach themselves to free radicals in the body. Free radicals are split electron shells in the body that do not have anything to bond with. The body will utilize antioxidants as a bonding agent to prevent damage to the cells from free radical formations in the body. When antioxidants are not found, then free radicals begin to damage other cells in the body and can cause long term damage including diseases such as clots and cancers.

For this reason, green tea's potent level of EGCG's help prevent cancer and can help cancers from spreading to other parts of the body. Green tea has also been utilized to help with heart health as it greatly reduces LDL cholesterol levels and promotes healthy blood flow and production. Cleansing palettes is also a popular use of green tea, increasing the flow of blood from the heart to the brain therefore reducing the chance of stroke and blood clots.

Green tea has been used for thousands of years for medicinal purposes in ancient China, and was considered the "miracle herb" by the ancient Chinese. While this secret was passed down from generation to generation, green tea is becoming more widely used by a greater portion of the population. Antioxidants are in the headlines more and more frequently, and gaining more and more medical importance.

While everyone should begin a green tea regiment, not all green tea is created equal. Bagged green tea's that you typically purchase have less potent EGCG's then loose leaf alternatives that you can purchase in health food stores. Many health food stores or vitamin shops will have green tea that can be mixed into water, or even pre-measured for a water bottle. These options usually contain a higher level of EGCG's then bagged teas.
