There are a number of specific things that frequent and proper hand washing can help to prevent. There is no cure for the common cold, partly due to the fact that the strain is always mutating and changing. When individuals wash their hands more often, they are able to prevent the spreading of diseases and germs. People can get the germs that spread the common cold off of their hands before they put their hands on their eyes or mouth and become contaminated by the sickness. Because it is always changing, an individual will not develop antibodies against the common cold, and will only be able to starve it off if they have a very good immune system, once they become infected.
While we know that there are times for children to wash their hands, there are also a number of times that individuals working with children need to remember to wash their hands. This will also help to limit the spread of disease and contamination from person to person. After helping children to blow their noses and after changing diapers, it is very important to wash hands properly. Proper hand washing practices include using an antibacterial soap, which will help to limit and kill bacteria that has gathered and formed on the hands, and rubbing the hands together for thirty seconds before rinsing off the soap. For adults, it can also be helpful to use warm water, since the warmer the water the more germs can be killed or weakened as well.
You can teach your children the importance of hand washing as young as infancy. A way to do this is to take them to a sink and wash their hands after every diaper change. This will help the child associate going to the bathroom with hand washing.
Instant hand sanitizers can be used to wash and clean hands when there is no water and proper soap available. This formula is still effective and is very convenient and easy to use. Additionally, it can be used by older and younger individuals as well, making it a perfect way to keep the hands of everyone in the family clean and virtually germ free!
