The Health Benefits of Thai Food

Thai food is gaining more and more popularity around the world. This does not come as much as a surprise to me because after living in Thailand for a few years the food that I would previously have loved back in my own country now tastes bland. Thai food can never be accused of being boring; in fact in most instances it feel like a festival occurring on your tongue. Even better is that there is well known health benefits of Thai food. In fact there are so many good things about the local dishes here that scientists are even conducting research into them.

The secret to the health benefits of Thai food is the fresh herbs and spices that are used when creating them. The most respected herbs and spices are;

- Galangal

- Curcumin

- Turmeric

- Lemongrass

- Coconut milk

- Chiles

- Coriander

All of the above spices and herbs are believed to have special properties that create the health benefits of Thai food. These benefits include such things as;

- Galangal; aids digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties

- Chiles; good for your heart and insulin levels

- Lemongrass; good for arthritis, headaches, and stomach pains

- Coriander; digestive problems and appetite stimulant

- Coconut milk; boosts immunity, slows aging, and lowering bad cholesterol

- Turmeric; anti-inflammatory and improvement in the circulatory benefits.

The above are just some of the benefits associated with Thai foods and all the more reason to enjoy it. It is also important to know that it is not all good news though. Too many chilies can upset your stomach and help cause ulcers. The biggest problem with Thai food though is that horrible chemical called MSG. Mono-Sodium Glutamate (MSG) is much loved by people in Asia; they put it in a lot of food even though, it doesn't really have a flavor. This addictive can not only cause many allergic responses but it also has a lot of negative health consequences.

Overall though, you will find that there are many health benefits of Thai food. Just go easy on the chilies and avoid the MSG altogether and you will do well.
