Getting started is probably the hardest roadblock that stops most people. Once you get started, the rest is setting a time frame for Yoga that's good for you. The first step is deciding which type of Yoga that suits your personality trait. There are many types of Yoga to choose from such as: Hatha, Vinyasa, Hot yoga and Kundalini just to mention a few.
How you chose to practice Yoga is the next step. If you choose to practice Yoga with a class in your area familiarize yourself with Yoga etiquette so you'll know what to expect when you join the class. Relax, you wont be the only new student in class, and don't be afraid to ask the instructor if you need help. Most classes start out slow with some breathing exercises to get you started.
If you'd like to practice Yoga at home this is also easily done. The first thing you need to do is to get some information on Yoga and chose the type which fits you. There are many ways you can obtain this information. Alternative magazines or newspapers can help, or you could also buy an instructional Yoga tape or C.D. You can also obtain information on Yoga from your local library to familiarize yourself with some of its poses.
If your home is the way you have chosen to start practicing Yoga, all you need is some lose fitting clothes that enable you to breathe and a Yoga mat. These mats can be obtained for as little as $20. Here are some helpful tips that will help you on your way.
* Don't have a big meal before you exercise. Eat a small meal a few hours before you start your exercise.
* Don't drink water as you exercise. Before and after is the best practice
* Don't wear shoes or socks when you practice Yoga. The mat that you have purchased is designed to give you traction as you go through some of the poses.
* Don't try to push yourself too hard, your muscles are new at this also.
If you are in a Yoga class try not to duplicate others in their poses.
* Having the proper alignment is the most important thing to remember.
* Familiarize yourself with some of the poses, and relax.
Now, that you've started your new lifestyle relax and enjoy it. This is a great way to meet new and exciting people, as you exercise your way to a new you and better health.
