The Health Care Reform Summit of Republicans and Democrats

Was it Really a Trap as the Republicans Anticipated?

On February 25, 2010, President Obama met with Democrats and Republicans to discuss the health care reform bill. The president's goal was to get it to move forward to insure the 47 million of uninsured adults in America and the 11 million of uninsured children. The summit was thought as a trap by most Republicans and did not know what to expect going into the Health Care Reform Summit.

The results were just a divided as before the Health Care Reform Summit. The Republicans repeatedly said that the provisions in the health care reform bill was not what the American people wanted. The main theory of the Republicans was that the future generations would have to pay for the health care reform bill with higher taxes. The health care reform bill reportedly cost about $950 billion which is the range that President Obama had hoped to be the final cost of the bill.

The end of the health care reform bill summit was much like the beginning with no major resolutions. President Obama stated that he will have to use the Democratic majority to get the health care reform bill to cover the million of uninsured Americans.

The president has yet to get the two sides of the bills, the Republicans and the Democrats to agree on the provisions of the health care bill. President Obama made the effort to have the health care reform summit to get any ideas from the Republicans to move the health care reform bill forward. As Joe Biden sat to the right of President Obama, and Harry Reid to the left so is how the health care reform bill stand. President Obama will have to try another approach to get the health care reform bill off of the Senate floor that sailed through the House initially as the most controversial legislature of the Obama administration.
