The New Health-Care Law

How Will it Affect Your Personal Health-Care Plan?

Janice Meyer
The Health-Care Bill has finally passed through Congress and the Senate. All Americans should now be able to afford health care. After several revisions, the bill has passed. Some parts of the bill will not take effect until 2014. One of those examples is to make it mandatory for everyone to purchase some type of health care insurance.
We do not believe this Health-Care bill will have detrimental effects on our current health-care program. Once new competitive insurance markets open for business in 2014, individuals buying coverage comparable to what they have today will pay 14-20 percent less. This will be a plus for us.

My husband and I have good insurance at the present time, which is an incentive for workers to remain with his former employer. He opted for more insurance at his retirement, but lost some that might have been included in his pension. However, we have managed well with it as is, and will keep our current insurance plan. I have also heard the president make that statement many times, and I strongly believe him, that "anyone who wants to keep their present health-care plan, can do so."

Many people keep saying it is a 'Health-care Takeover' by the government. I say it is not a government takeover. I believe, rather, it is the government doing its job - finding ways for the American people to have better lives. If 30 million people who have no health coverage now can subsequently afford to get that coverage, it is a good thing. President Obama has said this is what we need, and I believe what he says. It seems that the opposing party tends to make up lies about this bill. Could they be trying to save it for their group to have a victory after more elections?

I was quite pleased to hear that the Health-Care bill would not cover abortions. While both parties were bickering over the abortion phase, President Obama sent an Executive Order with the title: "Ensuring Enforcement and Implementation of Abortion Restrictions in the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act." What anti-abortiion Democrats couldn't get into the final bill, they achieved with that executive order: a blanket prohibition on the use of federal funds for elective abortions....

The bill will also put a stop to denial of health care for people who have preexisting health problems, or forcing them to pay high premiums for what care they already have. I feel I can relax now that this is off the table and will soon be in action.
