The Healthy Benefits of the Acai Berry

Have you ever heard of the acai berry? If you have not then it would not be a major surprise but it is one of those berries that everyone, women especially, should get to know extremely well in order to enhance their health. Smaller than a blueberry, it is one of the most potent superfoods around at the moment. As it is a superfood, it is widely used in energy drinks, health foods and even ice cream! This is, in effect, a quick introduction to the acai berry to show you just how good it actually is!

In terms of its status as a superfood, the acai berry has been used by Amazonian natives in Brazil for some years. It has ten times the number of antioxidants that the blueberry has, and the blueberry has highly been regarded as the top superfood around for some time. As such, the acai berry has a whole host of health benefits.

For example, the acai berry gives you an energy boost because it facilitates the slow release of energy within the body. It is also this function that aids the digestive process and encourages the body to metabolise energy more efficiently so that none is lost and stored as fat. As such, it also actively supports weight loss.

There are other benefits of the acai berry that your body could tap into though, including the boost it gives to your immune system and the halt it brings to the abilites of free radicals. The antioxidant properties boost your immune system by supporting it and raising resistance to infection. This occurs for several reasons, including the fact that it will fights free radicals and thus halt aging and the break down of cells. The body does not have to fight on two fronts and thus weaken itself as a result. The acai berry also detoxifies the body, fights cancerous cells, improves the circulatory system and can help you fight depression. As such, there are massive benefits fro your physical and mental health.

The small acai berry actually has everything you need within it for all of the above. It contains Omega fats, amino acids, antioxidants, electrolytes and vitamins E, B1 and A.

Although research is ongoing, the acai berry is most definitely safe to eat. There are no side effects and it can be added to almost any food to promote health. As such, you might want to get down to your local health store and investigate the benefits for yourself!
